Robert Raymond Steele

13 septembre 1944 - 17 novembre 2021
Robert "Bob" Steele passed away peacefully due to natural causes at home in Florence, Oregon.
Bob was born and raised in Palmerton, PA. He moved to New Jersey after college where he met and married Denise. After a few years and three kids, Bob decided to head west and moved the family to Mesa, AZ in 1981. His heart was always in Oregon though, and finally with retirement he and Denise were able to retire in Florence.
Bob had a very full life and was busy and active all of his days. He loved his retirement in Florence and stayed active with running, tennis, traveling, and spending time with Denise and family. Bob's energy was unmatched, and he could follow a 5-mile run with a couple tennis matches. He was active in the community, especially with the Florence Rotary, and he enjoyed giving his time to help make his town a better place.
Bob was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather. He was married to Denise for almost 50 years, and was the proud father of daughters Jenny, Sarah, and Kristin. His greatest joy, however, was being Grandpa Bob to his 5 grandchildren, Anderson, Cassie, Jackson, Maddie, and Brynlee.
Losing Bob has left a huge hole in our lives and our hearts, but he has left a lifetime of memories for us to hold on to. It's hard to summarize such a dynamic and loving person in a few sentences, and we hope others share their memories and stories too.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Club of Florence:

I cannot tell you how shocked and saddened I was when I read of Bob's death. He was always so active and the picture of good health. My heart goes out to you Denise and your beautiful family at this most difficult time in your lives. I will always remember Bob with great fondness.

I was so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Bob and Denise have been friends since 1981 when our families moved to Mesa. They always seemed like part of our family. A great family man. Love to his family. Heaven's gain, our loss.

To Denise and Family: As you know, better than anyone, Bob was just the greatest. His very untimely death is a large loss to all who knew him. As my business became busier, I really needed a backup on the Rotary Club Youth Activities Committee. The once a month meetings always seemed to pop up at a really busy time! Bob stepped up to be my back up person. He functioned as secretary of YAC, taking and distributing minutes, reminding me to prepare an agenda, and sending out the agenda. He made my job look easy, and didn't want any credit for the great assistance he provided. As others have said, his cheerful interaction with all of us was an inspiration. None of us could go wrong in trying to follow in his footsteps. I will miss him terribly. Fortunately, our great memories will live on. Thank you for allowing us to share him.

This Thanksgiving I remember Bob and am thankful that I knew him. Our paths crossed at tennis where Bob and I were always working on improving our games. His persistence, his optimism, his joy in it all were a pleasure to behold. Additionally, he was always kind and never mean, even when he delivered a killer shot. I am sorry to have him leave us, He truly was '77 years young.'
