He moved to the Devola area in 1952, where he was extremely mischievous and oftenspent time by the river. Some would say that's how he left the world as well.Bob graduated from Marietta High School in 1965. He then attended Marietta College, where hewas a proud member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity until his graduation in 1969. Later, heobtained a master’s degree in Economics from Ohio University and additional administrative certifications from the University of Dayton.
His work experience included teaching elementary school and secondary education at Frontier Local Schools, administration at Frontier Local Schools, and being principal at Beverly and Center Elementary in Fort Frye Local SchoolDistrict. He also coached football, softball, basketball, and many other sports, dedicating over 40 years to education in Washington County.Additionally, he ran his business, Forbes Rentals, with his wife, Carol.Bob had a love-hate relationship with the Browns, cheered on the Buckeyes, and was a proudReds fan. He was often found yelling at two TVs simultaneously! He enjoyed golfing with his brothers and friends, although he frequently had to replace clubslost in the water at Lakeside. “Bullet Bob” also played softball for years in rec leagues, earninghis nickname not for speed but perhaps for other reasons. He was also called “BobbyBasketball” by his family due to his coaching antics. He loved his students and teammatesdearly. On Friday evenings, Bob could often be found giving a toast at the 11th hour with many of hisfriends. As he got older, he became an avid fan of Fort Frye Sports.Bob loved deeply. He cherished his wife and best friend, Carol, above all else. He adored hisfour children: Ric (Brandi) Forbes of Lake Mary, Florida; Katie (Dan) vonHerrmann of Savannah,Georgia; Lindsay Hutton (Lee) of Georgia; and Dawn (Tim) Spurr of Beverly, Ohio .He was extremely proud of his grandchildren: Seth Forbes (Bethany) of Culloden, WV; BethForbes, Liam, and Emma Forbes of Lake Mary, Florida; Nick (Tori) from Marietta; Akira, Jacob,Stella, and Jeremy Hutton from Georgia; Jayci Spurr from Beverly; his great-granddaughter,Adeline Grace Spurr; and, within the next month, two more great-grandchildren, Wren andGraham. He was preceded in death by his brother, JohnForbes. He also had many dear friends who visited and helped him in his last few years. His dog, Zeke, will miss their walks by the river.
A celebration of life with a toast will be held later this summer at the Elks in Marietta. The familywishes to thank the Strecker Cancer Center for the care he received in the last six years. Dr.Cawley and Dr. Bhati saved his life many times, and there are no words to express ourgratitude. Dawn to you and the rest of your family I’m truly and deeply sorry to hear of Bob passing. He was never anything but nice to me just like the rest of your family top notch grip you all are. One memory I have was Nick and I’s senior trip we all went to Dick’s Last Resort in Myrtle Beach. While we were there Bob kept getting mad because they wouldn’t give him any silverware it was truly one of the hardest times I’ve ever laughed in my life. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers love you guys.

Mrs. Spurr I'm sorry for your losing your dad. Actually I was shocked when I found out Mr Forbes was your dad. I remember when he was the principal he was one of the best principals we had and couldn't ask for a better one. Everyone loved him and he actually showed people and kids that he cared about each one. He will be deeply missed. I know how it is to lose someone of cancer and I wish they never made a thing called it.

Sending love and prayers for peace and comfort during this time. I have many great memories of him but one that always gives me a chuckle is during a Jr High practice, when serval of us had already been pushing his buttons, I asked him why there were no pennies in his penny loafers. That might be the most red I’ve ever seen his face get and mine soon joined his red color as he had me running laps for quite some time that practice for being such a pain. As the years passed and I saw him around occasionally when I was back in town he always had a smile and kind words.
