Raymond Richard Cassick passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

He was born in Amherst, New York to Raymond George Cassick and Nyla Rudolph Cassick on December 16, 1943. He and his brothers Thomas, John (deceased), and Robert attended Amherst High School.

He made the smartest decision of his life the day he married Dolores Marie Borczynski - November 4, 1972.

He had three awesome children.

Raymond Richard Cassick Jr. (deceased), and then wife Joanne Cordone are the parents of his grandson, Alex Cassick. Susan Cassick and her husband Mark gave him two wonderful granddaughters, Melody and Aria Grimaldi. Brian Cassick and his wife Chicky finished off the lineup adding Meri and Michael Countryman, and Matthew and Miles Cassick.

Ray was a wonderful, devoted grandfather. He loved attending his grandchildren's band and choral concerts, and listening to them play music at home. They often came to visit so he could grumble about the noise and mess they made.

Ray loved the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, and hunting. He enjoyed listening to country music, and watching western movies and television shows.

A Navy veteran, Ray took an active role as a board member in the creation of the Veteran's Tribute, in Marion J. Fricano Memorial Park. Election season would find him volunteering as a poll worker.

He liked visiting the casino and going on trips with his friends from the North Collins Senior Center.

Ray was always ready to lend a hand, give advice, or look over your shoulder and offer smart remarks.

No official services will be conducted at this time. A memorial celebration will be held at the Veteran's Park this summer. Friends and family will be notified of the date of the event.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post 1640, 10571 Main Street, North Collins, New York 14111 or to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga, New York 14227.

Ray was a fellow Legion member and a part of our Honor Guard. He was always there paying his respects to our veterans. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his euchre playing abilities. His spirit will live on among us!

I knew Ray from visiting Buffalo to be with Chicky, Brian, and their children. He showed up at least once for dinner with Dolores each time I was there. He was a lovely, soft-spoken, Navy-proud man. He always looked at his grandchildren with such adoration. He was closest to Matt, who often came to his grandparents house to learn and do anything that was needed. Their bond was extremely special. My heart goes out to Brian, Chicky, their family, and all of Ray’s other family members and friends. Ray accomplished so very much in his life and he loved his wife Dolores utterly. It’s a shame we’ve lost such a wonderful man.

Best neighbor ever, always leading a helping hand on my riding mower. Always helping his neighbor in need.

I hope this memorial does my father-in-law justice. There is always more to a person than what one can express with the written word. I want you to see his little half-smile when he made a silly joke, or the warmth in his face as he snuggled a grandchild, or how his eyes lit up when he looked at his wife. So many men of his era have a hard time showing their feelings, but those who knew him best understood what was in his heart. Thank you for being the dad I needed so badly, and giving me the son who makes my life complete.
