Recuerdos

Ramon "Chick" Preciado, 78, of Santa Fe, passed away October 21, 2008. Chick was born in Sonora, Arizona in 1930. In 1960 he moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he worked as a machinist in the labs and performed in musical theater. Chick continued to explore music, chiefly in the areas of dance and percussion, even after he retired to Santa Fe in 1990, he was the drummer for the Jose Gonzales trio, and sang and played congas with the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band. Chick was one of the great entertainers. We'll sorely miss his musical passion and his personality. Chick is survived by his daughters; Gina Preciado (Frank Schunter) of Pittsburg, PA, Toni Luterbach (Steve Luterbach) of Albuquerque, NM, and Erni Preciado (Steve Mayo) of Mankato, Minnesota, granddaughters; Jacqueline Rocklage (Eric) of Branford, CT, and Jennifer Biretz (Ken) of Seattle, WA, grandsons; Rene Luterbach (Jill) and Zachary Luterbach both of Albuquerque, NM, great granddaughter Elizabeth Rocklage of Branford, CT, and great grandsons; Kaden and Noah Lutherbach both of Albuquerque, NM. A Memorial Service and Jam Session will be held at Tiny's Lounge (1015 Pen Road, Santa Fe, NM South East Corner of Cerrillos and St. Francis Drive) on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 3:00pm. My late wife, June, and I always loved Chick Baby. He was always our true friend and gave us big hugs every time we saw him. He and June were dancing partners in skits with the Katz Pajamas back in the late 60s and early 70s, and we enjoyed jam sessions with Chick and others at Duane Gifford's house. He was a wonderful friend and always lots of fun. I am awfully sorry he is gone, but know he is spreading his love in God's Heaven.

Chick always had a smile for us all the many years we went to Tiny's to listen to the band. Sometimes even a dance or two. We will miss him dearly. From our family to yours, our hearts and prayers are with you. Gena and Andy Prince

Chick was such a blessing to me during a difficult time in my life and I counted him as one of my richest blessings. I just know he's now playing in the best jazz band ever!

What a guy. I am saddened by his passing. First met in 1962 while working in the uranium shops - LASL He was a machinist doing the presicion moves - I was 18 yrs. old and he taught me some machining especially on the lathe. We became friends - Stories like when he was in competation to lose weight with other fellow workers determined to win at all costs- In came the Ex-lax - off went the weight he was crazy sometimes he did'nt win we all laughed! He loved his family , his friends and his music! I will always remember his ready smile and laughs with friendly inquries. Ray J. Martinez
