Loving father and husband, Rakesh Kumar Tandon, born in Allahabad, UP in India on April 1st, 1941, son of Rani and Sant Prasad Tandon, passed peacefully while on his usual morning walk on August 3rd, 2020 in Gurgaon, India.
He lived an illustrious, productive and fulfilling life. He was a nationally and internationally recognized gastroenterologist, researcher and mentor to his numerous students, and had received a number of accolades and awards both within India and abroad for his achievements in promoting science and humanity.
We remember him as a kind human being, who deeply cared for everyone around him and was humble in his ways. He was fun and entertaining to be with, and liked to tease us and his friends in a jovial and loving way. A sports enthusiast, he loved to play badminton and tennis, and was an excellent swimmer.
He taught us the value of hard work, dedication to one's duty, and to enjoy life to its fullest. We will cherish his memories fondly. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues, but his legacy will continue to flourish within his field and in the hearts of those he touched.
We can tell him now, You have worked hard for others, now you can Rest in peace.

Azad and I knew Rakesh for many years. Both he and Azad were eminent gastroenterologists in their respective countries of India and Bangladesh. Everyone has been commenting on his expertise and devotion. I particularly remember his And his wife’s kindness when we were in Delhi for my brother-in law’s CABG. He and Manju offered us their hospitality and let us stay in their beautiful home. It was a gesture which touched us no end! Worried and not impressed with Trehan’s handling of relatives (read us, both medical), we were utterly relieved to find this much needed refuge! May God take care of this angel that he acquired all too early!
