Souvenirs

Priscilla (Ferne) Fader (nee Moreside) - MacKeigans' Guest Home, Lr Sackville NS.

Born in North River PEI, Ferne left this earth peacefully, surrounded by love, on the morning of August 19, 2024 at the age of 94 after a long battle with dementia.

Ferne will be remembered for her exceptional cooking, baking and crafting as well as her love of animals and a good laugh. Before her health declined, she spent many years involved with the United Church Women at Knox United Church, Sackville.

She was always a tough cookie living a life with many twists and turns, but was acknowledged in recent years for her strength and stamina - or some would call it stubbornness. She pulled through a few illnesses and we began to wonder if she would outlive us all. Even with the disease, she kept her smiles and humour until not very long ago, enjoying the company of others including her best cat friend Wolfie who stayed with her to the end.

An only child, she was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Fulton Moreside.

She was predeceased by husband Archie Fader in 2004 and gave him the ultimate gift passing away on what would have been his 93rd birthday.

She is survived by children Susan McLeod (Mount Uniacke), Donna Doyle (Ontario) and Cheryl Fader (Timberlea). She also mothered Archie's Boys: Barry Fader (Lunenburg), Brian Fader (Vancouver) and the late Bruce Fader. Ferne was an “adopted” mom to Sandra Hume (Montague) and grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother to that PEI branch of the family tree. She leaves behind many extended family members in PEI as well as Fader grandkids and great grandkids across the country.

Thank you to the many who provided compassionate care to Ferne over the last several years. Special mention to those who cared for her in her final months, Denis and Nancy, as well as loving friend Gloria. And thanks to the very kind paramedics in those final hours.

The family would like to thank our partners and friends for their support and understanding over the years through Ferne's journey.

An informal Celebration of Life drop-in will be held on Saturday September 21, 2024, 11am-2pm in the “Fader Room” at the Sackville Legion, 45 Sackville Cross Rd, Lower Sackville.

Ferne will be laid to rest with Archie at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Sackville, private family burial at a later time.

Ferne loved and missed her Island home so much. To honour this, some of her ashes will be placed privately in PEI at a later date.

If you would like to remember Ferne, please plant some flowers in her memory as she enjoyed puttering in her gardens.

What a wonderful lady. I grew up in Lower Sackville in the 50's, 60's and 70's and like so many others, enjoyed Ferne and Archie's kindness and friendship. It was quite a different world in those years and Faders Grocery store was an important hub of the community. Ferne was always a great support for Archie and a good friend of my parents for which I am forever grateful. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to all the family at this difficult time and I hope your warm memories provide strength and comfort.

Cheryl & family - have many wonderful memories of Ferne's hospitality - together with Archie - in the 1990s and 2000s. She was kind enough to loan me her car to campaign in the 1998 election! She and Archie are together in heaven again. Rob Batherson
