Recuerdos

This memorial has been created to share memories of our valued colleague, Peter Driscoll. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are very much with his family and friends, and we share the grief right now for his wife Jeannie, Kyle, Sarah and Emily. Peter was a wonderful leader for Forest and Fire Operations in the Otways, a bloke with a can-do attitude and an ability to get things done. His knowledge of fire was outstanding. Peter was a highly respected and exceptional fireground leader, and lead numerous operations across the State and internationally. His calmness and leadership presence ensured he always had a strong focus on the safety of his team. Peter died aged 60, looking forward to an enjoyable retirement. Sadly, he has been taken to soon and will be missed by so many. It is time to gather around and support Peter's family, friends and work colleagues.

Barwon Water

It is with sadness that Barwon Water recognises the passing of Peter Driscoll. Barwon Water's Operational staff worked closely with Peter over many years as a neighbour of one of Geelong's key water supply assets, the Wurdee Boluc Inlet Channel and built a respectful relationship with him during this time. More recently Peter's cooperation during a significant upgrade of this asset enabled the smooth completion of these works through his property. Testament to Peter is the way he always maintained a professional approach while working with Barwon Water to improve the safety of operations along that section of the channel, not only for his family, friends and animals but also for our operational staff. Barwon Water wishes to pass on their condolences to Peter's family and all his work colleagues at DELWP.

Meet Pete quite a few times over the years at numerous fires, with quite a few handovers and debriefs afterwards at camps, he was a great bloke that stood out as a leader, well respected and knowledgeable in all aspects of fire, you will be missed another good guy taken to soon. RIP Pete

PD. You were there from the start, 9 years working with you, You were Calm, wise, noble, supportive. Always willing to teach. Your door was always open, A turn of your chair upon a knock, A smirk looking over your glasses, Ready to listen, Ready to advise. The memories at Forrest are fond and will never be forgotten. You always had time, made time, for anyone, for anything, even after knock off, It didn't matter, I'm so appreciative. I was lucky enough to work with all your kids over the years, you were there for it all. Proud of them as always! You were our rock when Bill passed,So strong for us all. You have no idea how much you helped us, Especially me. I never really thanked you. Composed at even the sketchiest of times, You made us feel safe, We were safe under your guidance. You had our trust, Your experience,Your calmness, Your knowledge and actions, it was always going to be okay. You made me a better person, I'm so thankful for the effort you put in, The belief you had in me. You taught me so much. I am forever grateful. May the beers be cold and the fish be on the bite. Cheers Harry.

What a Man. Pete was so many things to me; a mentor, leader, confidante and friend. He guided and supported, not only me, but our families too...….always family first. He was so proud of Jeannie, Em, Sarah and Kyle. He pushed me to take on responsibility, providing insightful tips and example on how to do it, while trusting and backing...…...a teacher whose advice often resonates whether at work or home. He gave it to me straight with honesty and the best of intentions, and he was right...……..most of the time anyway. I know he took pride in seeing others grow and succeed, and that he's helped so many do this. He made me laugh (and often raise the eye brows) with that incredible quick wit. He also had an incredibly caring side. I know he's carried the weight of responsibility for us many times that many aren't aware of. He's been both a calming and action provoking influence. We had a pact, he and I. I reckon we're both released from it now. You know the one Pete. Thanks. And thanks for everything Boss.

Pete. How well I remember Christmas Day Fire In Wye River 2015 when you came into the fire station and stood like a 4 star general and said to me. You're lucky you haven't a back window because if you could see what was coming over the hill you wouldn't be sitting here. Then noticing the few boxes of Crownies that had been donated to the brigade for Xmas you said when this is over you and I are going to sit down and have a couple of those.I am so glad we got to some 8 months later. I am so grateful to have worked with such a strong well respected leader. Roy Moriarty
