Biography of Nelson Petit-Homme
Nelson Petit-Homme was born on November 9, 1944 to Escane Petit-Homme and Satela St. Ange in La Pointe, Deplamis, Haïti. As a young man he attended a missionary school, where he met and was highly influenced by a great mentor and father figure named Hanson; from whom he named his last son after.
In 1958 Nelson traveled from Haiti and joined his uncle Saintilma “Nelson” Lifaite in the Bahamas. He worked hard in various jobs including gas station attendant, dock worker, and other jobs. Nelson worked and saved his money until he had enough to return to Haiti and build his mother a very fine house that was grandiose by all account, for its time. He assisted both his mother and his siblings in any way he could, which included assistance with school tuition. Nelson returned to the Bahamas and continued to work in order to provide for them.
In 1970, while still residing in the Bahamas, Nelson met his wife Nicole. They fell in love and got married and on January 23, 1972 they welcomed Nelda, their first born, to the world. In late 1972 Nelson, Nicole, and Nelda moved to South Florida where they began the next stage of their lives together and had five more kids. Nelson and Nicole ultimately had six children born to them in their over 50 years of marriage. While in Miami, Nelson began working in construction for a company called Bob Young where he excelled at his job and made great lifelong friends within the industry.
Nelson Petit-Homme is survived by His Wife, Nicole. His Children: Nelda, Nethy, Neil, Nevins, Newlyn, and Nanson. His Children-in-law: Austine, Chiquita, and Edeline. Nelson enjoyed mentoring up-and-coming construction workers and novices in the industry. He enjoyed sharing stories and jokes with all of his family and friends. Nelson was always willing to give the shirt off of his own back to help others. He helped many of his family and friends with everyday life challenges and done it selflessly; just to see others succeed with their goals. There wasn’t a family member or friend that Nelson wasn’t willing to open his home to, if they needed a place to stay. His big heart and generous spirit was always there to help others get on their feet.
When it came down to construction, Nelson was always known as the “Go To” person for many people and teams in the industry. He was known by many names to include Boss Nelson, Chico, and others. Nelson had virtually worked on countless houses, facilities, structures, and buildings throughout his successful career. If someone needed to figure out how to do something or to solve a problem in the construction field, Nelson was who people would often be referred to. His teaching spirit has helped countless professionals harness and develop their skills. Nelson is a true professional and is considered a “Master Builder”. Nelson is also known to be a great husband and father. When you saw one of his kids, you saw him; not only because of their resemblance, but also his character in them. God must have been impressed with him, and required a person of his caliber to be a Master Builder within our Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom; thus on June 30, 2021 at 11:30pm Nelson Petit-Homme was called home.
Nelson Petit-Homme was loved by all, respected by all, honored by all, and will be greatly missed by all those that has been blessed to have known him.
