Millicent Yhun

Millicent Yhun, affectionately known as Auntie Millie or simply “Mums”, was lovingly called “Granny Millie” by her grandchildren and “Sis Yhun” by her church family. She was the third child of Joseph and Florence Jettoo. Milli grew up in British Guiana, now Guyana, where she was raised with humble beginnings and a strong work ethic. She worked diligently alongside her husband, Edwin, supporting his self‑built cabinet‑making business, where he specialized in crafting Berbice chairs. Milli later joined the staff of the South Road Daycare—formerly known as the Crèche under the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security. She also worked at City Hall in the Milk Distribution Department before migrating to the United States.
Millie migrated to the United States in 1986. She served as a childcare provider for several families before caring for her own grandchildren. Millie also served as the receptionist at Rikidi Dance Studio, where her warm smile and welcoming personality made everyone feel at home. She loved people, listened with compassion, and was always ready to offer encouragement and support. Her positive influence reached staff, students, and parents alike, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Millie was a home‑grown cook who could create a delicious meal from just a few simple ingredients. If you entered her home and mentioned that you were hungry, she would immediately make her way to the kitchen to prepare something warm and satisfying. She was known for her generous heart and thoughtful acts of kindness. Whether through her words of encouragement, a home-cooked meal, or a few dollars discreetly slipped into the hands of loved ones, she found countless ways to show her love and care for others.
She loved attending church each week and was an active member of The Revival Center Church for more than thirty years. She enjoyed singing and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with others. As her health declined and she was no longer able to attend services in person, Sis Yhun remained steadfast in her devotion. She faithfully watched the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries broadcasts, singing along and reading her Bible.
Millicent was predeceased by her husband Edwin; her daughter Romona; her siblings Franky, Harold, Robert Jettoo, Rita Dye and Sheila Lalman; in-laws Colin Dye, Joyce Jettoo, Helen and Joshua Yhun; niece Shirley Yhun and nephew Derrick Jettoo.
