MICKEY JOSEPH MARTINES
SEPTEMBER 5, 1959 - AUGUST 9, 2021
Our Beloved Mickey Joseph Martines went home to be with the Lord, in Wheatland, Wyoming surrounded by family at the age of 61 on August 9th, 2021. He was the Son of John Paul Martines and Joy Martines who preceded him in death as did his brother Guy Paul Blue.
He is survived by Janie Martines, his wife, best friend, and sweetheart of over 45 years, his many children with their spouses, both natural andadopted: Jason, Joshua, Charity, Stewart, Caleb, Athena, Zachary, Nydia, Ayumi, Michael, Lori, Timothy, Jamie, and 17 beautiful grandchildren. He is also Survived by his many siblings, Jonee' Hanson, Earnie and Rita Bowen,David and Lisa Twigg, Gregg and Laura Smith, Daniel and Candy Bowen, and hismother-in-law (or Mom) Belva Bowen, and many nieces and nephews as well as many, many dear friends.
Mickey was born and raised in Westminster, California. He met the Love of his life; his "Sweet Pea," at the age of fifteen and they were married when they were both just sixteen. No longer kids and yet not adults; they set out to build a life with one another and Jesus. They had five children together and many more adopted in spirit.
Mick was a true friend and mentor to everyone around him. He was the kind of person who asked how someone was doing and truly meant it. Although he was not a rich man, he was very generous with what he had and freely gave to those in need, always considering the needs and wants of others before his own. He spent one of the most precious resources he had on everyone around him, which was his time.
Mick would spend countless hours talking to people, checking in on them, sitting with them over a meal, giving wise counsel, cracking jokes, and praying for those who crossed his path. He loved the Bible and loved discussing and teaching the Word of God. Many times, it has been said that he was a "fox hole" friend, a rare person one could count on even when life became exceptionally difficult. No matter the hour or the situation people knew they could call and count on him. Although he was not a perfect man, he was a humble and principled man, a person of exceptional integrity, passion, and a huge heart. He set his heart to do the right thing and to honor God in his actions, even when difficult or came with a personal cost. Often telling people "All you have in this world is your word." (By which one's reputation and heart's motivationis demonstrated.)
Mick lived life to the fullest. As many who knew him can attest, he had such a robust presence about him. He was funny, enjoyed laughing and causing alittle mischief. In his later years he really enjoyed being a Papa, constantly surrounded by grandbabies, sharing tortillas, popsicles (Long-Johns were his favorite), and all sorts of treats with them, and making memories. Often, he commented on how thankful and blessed he felt, stating that God had given him such a rich life, full of family and friends.

Ten years ago, I was a dispatcher for San Manuel Public Safety. Mick was so intimidating with his arms busting out of his uniform and his loud voice. He had this command presence that scared many people. But what if came to find out over the last ten years was those muscles were all heart. I still remember like yesterday, Mick calling me to gripe about something on the dispatch phone, but he would do anything we asked him to do and worked himself to the bone. Sometimes I remember telling him to please take a day off cause he was grumpy, but all he cared about was providing a great life for the love of his life; Janie. While I was in the police Academy, Mick would call and check on me and offer advice. Soon after I graduated and became an officer, Mick promoted to the training unit. I remember the day he had to tase me with a Taser gun. A story he would tell for years to come because I didn’t say a peep. I jokingly told him that I enjoyed it. I still have the video with his voice. Poor Mick, I can’t count the number of times I used him as a reference for background investigations. I actually had background investigators ask me “who that guy was from San Manuel?” because no doubt Mick said something that stuck with them. But I could trust that Mick would not bull shit and tell it like it was. I also could trust that Mick would take care of me. I always got the job. Years later, I was a police officer for another agency working at the police academy and academy needed someone to teach bomb training response. Well of course I thought of Mick. They sent both Mick and I at the same time to instructor school together…lol…. I remember we carpooled every day. Mick was always early and waiting for me. I always made us late. But I made up for it by giving him answers to the test. A couple years ago, I switched over to the federal side and who did I call for advice on many incidents? Mick! I could always count on Mick to answer the phone even after living in another state. And when time would pass, I could always count on a phone call……. “Hey girl, Whatcha been up to?” I will forever hold that voice of his in my heart. Just this past year, Mick helped several times on and off with my master’s program. He helped me with risk assessments and even proof read one of my papers. Mick was always there for me. He was like a father. I am so thankful to have crossed paths in life with such an amazing and giving individual.

We were very fortunate to have known and worked with Mick. He was a passionate man about everything. I loved watching his eyes light up when he talked about his family, he loved them deeply. He taught me a lot and I Thank God I got to meet him. No one will ever get in heaven with a fake ID with Mick there

As one of the lucky ones to be able to call him Uncle Mickey. I am so thankful for him and the friendships he gave. To Aunt Janie, Jason, Josh, Charity, Caleb & Zach, thank you all for sharing him with the rest of us.
