"What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all we love deeply becomes a part of us." Helen Keller

Melissa (Missie) was a loving wife, a mother, a grandma, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. There was nothing she loved more than being surrounded by those that she loved most. Her smile was contagious and genuine.

She was kind and loved fiercely, as she learned from her mother and she passed down to her children. The door always open, welcomed to a seat at her table, a warm meal, and a space to feel part of the family. The more people at her house during a celebration, the better. Nothing broke her heart more than the thought of someone, anyone being alone and without family. She was dedicated, loyal, and selfless - always putting those she loved first and herself last. She refused to take a sick day for the fear not being there to support her patients. She was at her husband’s side every day during his rehabilitation, supported her children through the loss of their father, and held hands with her sister through the loss of their beloved parents.

She was gracious, kind, and giving - she offered help at countless graduation parties to the point where she could probably start her own company. I can no longer count on both hands the amount of salads, pans of sour kraut, and trays of pasta she has made (and coerced me into making) to support families and friends during different events.

Missie's love for her children and grandchildren was paramount without question. Her greatest joy was spending time with each of them. We will miss chicken pot pies to celebrate birthdays, baking cookies at Christmas, camping trips, swimming in the pool, sleepovers at grandma's, and probably most of all, random check in text messages that stated with "hi. what are you doing?" There was nothing she wanted more than to continue the traditions of being together and celebrating each other.

She loved her husband, Jeff, unconditionally. They enjoyed going for rides in the convertible, traveling to flordia with their friends, going out to dinner, and most recently, camping in their camper. They had great plans to travel the world in retirement and spend time with all the people they enjoyed most.

Thank you for celebrating the precious and incredible life of Melissa, she will forever live in our hearts and in our memories. Our ask from you is to keep her legacy alive but sharing your stories, your memories, and your photos so that at any point, we can feel closer and more connected a very special person.

I miss my grandma so much I miss it when she calls me bug and I wish I would’ve talk to her more I miss when I used to chase her around the house with frogs and we would go shopping and she would always manage to get at least twenty dollars off a purchase and how we used to talk about when I was old enough I would get that dame blue streak in my hair and I wish I could grow up with her more and I wish I Could go on more vacations and celebrate birthdays and Christmas with her I wish she could watch me grow up and eat Chili together and I want her to come and watch me play volleyball I wish that she could just be here with me and not in any pain it’s not fair we still had so much to do and I just want her back I miss you so much grandma

There are people who are dealt the same hand as Melissa and do not handle it with the same grace and fighting attitude as her. One day at work, Melissa was especially happy because she “finally had ankles again”. After we shared in a laugh over that, she then continued on to model her compression socks and talked about wishing she was on a beach with a cold cocktail. I believe that’s where she is now. Looking over everyone she loves, with a cold cocktail in hand, on the perfect beach. Prayers for her loved ones during this time of healing.

I met Melissa at Dr Peery’s office. She was the only person who could get my blood first try!! I always asked for her if they were busy. We shared many of life’s trials with each other. We both loved Florida and the sun. One night in Florida we both ate at the same restaurant. I got to meet Jeff and her daughter. I had a medical test at the same time as her memorial. I drove by the barn afterwards. There were so many people there. I felt so good to see how many people loved her. Melissa, I will miss you so much.

Missie was my mom’s friend and my friend’s mom, but she was also “Aunt Miss” and she was there for anyone who needed it. She taught me to make her fabulous pork wantons when we made them for my wedding. She was so giving of her time and skills in the kitchen. When I need recipe inspiration I’m going to look through her old Facebook posts, she was always saving something that looked delicious. ❤️
