Maureen (Nichols) Wood

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen (Nichols) Wood. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Maureen passed away on January 16th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer; she was 75 years old.

Born in England to parents, Joseph & Brenda Nichols, Maureen moved to Canada as a child and eventually settled in Ottawa, Ontario where she built a life filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories along side her sisters, Christine, Anne & Kim and her brother Kevin.

She was the devoted wife of Dave Wood for 45 years and the proud mother of two children: Jason Greenslade (married to Parwanah) and Jeff Greenslade (married to Jill).

Maureen was a dedicated mother and treasured the time she got to spend with her family. She had four grandchildren who she adored more than life; Vincent, Noah, Grady and Tanner. 

Maureen made several career moves and, on occasion, she worked multiple jobs to support her family. She spent time at the National Film Board, she acted as a General Manager in several service industries, and she also ran her own catering company. 

Her hard work ethic, compassion and unconditional love for others gave her purpose in life as she also spent a considerable amount of her life caring for the needs of several aging individuals.

Maureen touched the hearts of many through her kindness, grace, and unwavering love. Her family was her greatest source of happiness and inspiration; in fact, everything that she did was for her family and those close to her.

A private cremation has already taken place to honor Maureen's wishes, with a memorial service to be announced at a later date. 

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Maureen’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, an organization dedicated to supporting and raising awareness about this disease.

Maureen may not be where you last saw her but if you carry her memory  in your hearts then she'll always be where you need her.
