Matthew Brady Gualtieri
Matthew Brady Gualtieri ("Matt"), our much loved son, father, brother and friend passed away on January 21, 2021, from hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Matt was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on May 29, 1976; and grew up in Long Beach, California. He worked in a variety of jobs in his early years and was living in Arizona when he met Ericka Schultz. They were married on April 17, 2010. He joined the US Army and graduated as a combat infantryman at the age of 34. Soon after he was deployed to Iraq with the First Calvary Division. In May 2011 his daughter, Jaidyn Rae, was born while he was in Iraq. He was one of the last troops to leave Iraq in December 2011 when the war finally ended. In 2012 he was transferred to Fort Carson, and he and his family moved to Colorado Springs where he joined the 4th Infantry Division. He was again deployed to the Mideast in 2013. He thrived in the Army and fully intended to spend his 20 years as a non-commissioned officer. In 2015 his wife Ericka unexpectedly died and Matt was a single parent, which brought his career in the Army to an end. He was honorably discharged in 2015 and moved to Utah to be close to family. In December 2016 he married Melissa Reedy, and in September 2017 his son Easton was born. He started working at the Walmart Distribution Center in Grantsville, Utah. Matt planned to make a career at Walmart where he was a manager. Most weekends he could be found on the golf course playing golf with his dad and some friends. Matt is survived by his father Al Gualtieri and stepmother Marlene, his daughter Jaidyn and son Easton, along with step-daughters and one stepson, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, and more friends than we could ever count. Due to COVID, a virtual memorial service will be held on March 20 at 10 a.m. (MST) At a later date, the family will gather to scatter his ashes in Arizona, at the location where Ericka's ashes were scattered in 2015.
