Recuerdos

Mary Glim passed to the other side on September 13, 2022, at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 69 years old. Mary was born the youngest of five children, to Jean and Robert Glim in Fresno CA in 1953. She attended the College Lab School during her elementary years until the family moved to Khartoum, Sudan for a project her father, a Fresno State Professor, accepted with U.S.A.I.D. The family spent three years overseas, from 1961 to 1964, and Mary visited countries all over the world in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Once the family returned to Fresno, Mary attended Tenaya Middle School and Bullard High School, where she made many lifelong friends, including Nancy Belden, Carol Dubsick, and Cathy Carter. Two years upon her return home, her mother died of cancer, which was a monumental loss to Mary. Following high school, Mary worked in catering and food service in Fresno and Shaver Lake. She loved living in the mountains and was well adapted to mountain life. She had a huskie named Micah she especially loved. She was able to put on chains with no help and was never late to work due to snow. It was while she lived and worked in Shaver that she met Phillip Bieker who was a miner at the Helms Project. They fell in love and spent many years together in Shaver, Fresno, and Hawaii. Together they had a beautiful baby girl named Chelsea, who they both adored. Mary will be remembered for her love of music—her favorite memory was seeing Joni Mitchell in San Francisco in 1973; her devotion to animals, especially dogs; her unparalleled sense of humor and ability to make people laugh; her impersonations of TV personalities such as Lily Tomlin and Paul Lynde; her collection of eccentric laughs that she would use at the most inappropriate times to the delight of whoever she was with; her love for her family and friends, and her tender heart. Mary truly could find the best in everyone and believed all people were deserving of respect and love. She leaves behind her daughter, Chelsea and Chelsea’s husband Brenon, and her grandchildren, Harper Jewel and Finnian Ocean; her brother, David, and her sisters, Alice, Margaret, and Roberta. She also leaves her stepmother, Dorothy Glim, and stepbrother, Lenn as well as many nieces and nephews who love her dearly and have many happy memories of their fun Aunt Mary.
