Following in his fathers footsteps, Rudy was an accomplished athlete lettering in five sports at the college level with his favorites being football and track. As an educator he started with coaching and teaching and moved on to become a school administrator. He ended his career in a love he had since his childhood, as a rancher. Rudy loved people and made many friends in education and public service. A few of the roles he served in were: Chairman of the Republican Party, Taos County Commissioner and Presidential Appointment to the National Public Lands Council and Chairman of People for the West. He served as an educational ambassador to El Salvador through UNM. He served in multiple capacities as a water authority. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joseph Louie and Robert Pacheco. Rosary and mass were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish on Friday, June 27th and June 28th, 2014 respectively. He will be greatly missed by his children.

So sorry to hear of Coach Pacheco's passing. I was a 1959 Taos High graduate. Coach Pacheco was one of my favorite teachers and was my favorite coach, including college coaches. He made sports fun for me and because of his example I became a coach myself (40 years}. I had hoped to visit him this summer so I especially feel bad at his passing. My condolences to Coach Pacheco's family.

Rudy was a great friend and someone you could depend on when the time is needed. Enjoyed working with Rudy for many years on the Taos County Planning Commission and many other county committees. You will be sadly missed by all.
