Forever in our Hearts
Lloyd, late of Nutfield, Islington, St.Mary, made his transition on 6th October 2021.
He was born on January 14, 1934 to Mary Lee-Moi Phang and Gon Yu Phang in Portland, JA. Lloyd was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. He was a devoted father and husband to his late wife Oicenth.
Lloyd was a passionate singer and self taught musician who shared his gift with family and friends at every opportunity. He could often be found singing the classics from Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
Lloyd faced many challenges early on in life, but he had an indomitable spirit that never gave up. By age 14, he lost his father, forcing him to drop out of school to help support himself and his younger brother. As a teenager, Lloyd enjoyed going to the local gym, where he took up boxing. He was a born fighter, a skill he relied on throughout his life. It wasn’t long after that he lost his mother, and was fighting polio in the hospital. He fought to walk again after doctor’s told him he never would. He never gave up, even when the odds were against him. Though handicapped, Lloyd was determined to succeed in life. He started his career as a Life Insurance salesman where he excelled and was one of the top producers in the company. He garnered multiple Million Dollar Round Table awards and was recognized as a lifetime member.
Lloyd married the love of his life, Oicenth and soon after they relocated to Islington, St. Mary, where he called home. He was a prominent member of the community, serving as a Justice of the Peace, and a mentor to many.
Lloyd is survived by sons: Collin (Angie), Damian, Wayne (Ingrid), Vaughn and Mario; daughters: Susan (Julian), Opal (Michael) and Oicenth (Kirk); Marcia; brother Kenneth (Cynthia) grandchildren, great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Caregivers: Angela, Maureen and Claudette. Lloyd is predeceased by wife Oicenth, children Lloyd Jr. and Lilieth. We are deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion extended to our family during this difficult time.
Lloyd was laid to rest on the 27th of October, 2021 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Islington, St. Mary. A recording of his Celebration of Life may be viewed at: https://www.LPhang.livestreamingjamaica.com/

Oicenth Josephs

I feel blessed to have grown up with the parents I had. Dad, you were not perfect, but you did the best you could, and I always knew I had your love and support. You were smart, you were talented, you were funny, you were determined, and you were bold in everything you did. I love you daddy. You and mom are together now.
