Recuerdos

Lisa Ann Meyers, 74, of Nashville, TN, passed away at home on April 17, 2023, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Michael Stephen Meyers, her loving husband of 54 years, cared for her in their home and held her in his arms while softly singing to her as she peacefully passed away.

Lisa was born on October 20, 1948, to Charles and Virginia Shulenberger in Topeka, KS. She had one older brother, Jon Shulenberger. Her family moved to Raytown, MO, a suburb of Kansas City, MO, where she grew up and graduated from Raytown South High School in 1966. She went on to study at Central Missouri State. Her fondest memories as a child were the summer vacations her family took to The Lake of the Ozarks where she enjoyed swimming, boating and water skiing.

In 1968, she met Michael (Mike) Meyers on a double date. By the end of the night, Mike had swept his best friend’s date off her feet and professed that Lisa was the woman he was going to marry. After a whirlwind romance, Lisa and Mike married on May 10, 1969. Soon after, they moved to Nashville, TN, where Mike established his career in music, and where they raised three children, Todd, Holly and Ben. In 1998, their youngest son, Ben, died at age 20 in a tragic car accident. After almost 25 years, a mother and her precious son are finally reunited and rejoicing together in Heaven.

Lisa was a loving and devoted stay-at-home mom for nearly 20 years before she was hired by Vanderbilt Hospital in 1988, where she worked in the Department of Pastoral Care as the office Administrative Assistant. As with everyone who knew her, Lisa was beloved by the chaplains, and they often referred to her as “the chaplain to the chaplains.” She loved them as much as they loved her.

Lisa retired in 2013 after working nearly 25 years at Vanderbilt. While retired, she enjoyed spending time with her family who she cherished, especially her three grandchildren (who affectionately called her “Mimi”), participating in her garden club (The Evening Belles Garden Club), and shopping estate sales and antique stores. She loved miniatures and couldn’t help but pick up anything tiny to admire it. She was also very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting over the years. She was also known for loving sweets, especially M&Ms and McDonald’s soft-serve ice cream cones.

Lisa was a natural beauty and seemed to never age. But as beautiful as she was on the outside, she was even more beautiful on the inside. She loved the Lord, and His love shined brightly through her. She was shy, funny, loving, gentle, kind, honest, patient, loyal and humble. She never made an enemy. To know her was to love her.

Lisa was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Virginia Shulenberger, her son, Benjamin (Ben) Meyers, and her loving brother, Jon Shulenberger. She is survived by her husband, Michael Meyers, children Todd Meyers and his wife, Kori, Holly (Meyers) Nickolaus and her husband, Nick, grandchildren Reagan (Todd), Ellie (Todd), and Noah (Holly), and a large extended family including three sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

The family is hosting a non-traditional Celebration of Life Reception on May 20, 2023, between 2-5 pm, where snacks and refreshments will be served. All who knew and loved her are encouraged to drop in for any portion of that time. The reception will be held at River Plantation Section VII Clubhouse, 1247 General George Patton Rd, Nashville, TN 37221.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (link below) or a charity of your choice.
