Recuerdos

To know Linda was to know her exuberant joy and generous love. She was a natural encourager and her thoughtfulness reached far and wide, especially through the handwritten cards she sent for all occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and in sympathy. She yearned to help people feel special and cared about. She was an attentive listener and engaging conversationalist, easily getting to know people, especially on the international trips she took with Dan. Intelligent, quick-witted, and possessing a clever sense of humor, she kept dinner table conversarions interesting and animated.

Some of Linda's favorite pastimes were music, such as going to the symphony, opera, musicals, or singing along to Diana Ross and the Supremes with Diana while driving her to school. She enjoyed travel, domestic and international. She and Dan visited over 80 different countries together and one of Linda's favorite experiences was meeting locals and learning about their lives, country, and culture. Linda enjoyed the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and especially loved her backyard, replete with evergreen trees, ferns, and colorful rhodedendrons.

Linda was a Christian, wanting to reflect Jesus in how she lived her life. She once said in the process of writing her cards of encouragement, God was teaching her who He is by helping her find the Bible verses to share with others. She was involved in every church she attended, teaching young girls on Wednesday nights, creating elaborate bulletin boards, participating in Bible studies, and serving as a table leader, along with Dan, in her longtime Sunday School Class, Young at Heart. Perhaps the best way she reflected the heart of God was how she so lavishly loved others.

She was a breast cancer survivor and lived with Parkinson's Disease for the last decade of her life. Parkinson's stole her ability to write, and she was grieved to no longer be able to send cards to her friends and loved ones. She lost her ability to walk and though confined to a bed for the last two years, still found enjoyment in time spent with her family. Diana visited several times a week and Dan was by her side every single day.

We invite you to share your memories of Linda below.

My sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rice, and I were privileged to bring several concerts to Linda's bedside. The first one was, Sentimental Journey - a Century of Song. We cut the program in half, thinking it might be too much for an hour-long program. When she realized we had done that, she was so disappointed. She wanted to full-meal deal, rather than the Happy Meal, if you will. When her husband came into the room after we had completed our program, she asked that we sing Oh Danny Boy in honor of him. He deferred, asking that we sing Unforgettable, in honor of her. If that isn't a picture of love! We enjoyed bringing our patriotic program in July of 2023 - Let Freedom Sing. We gave her a little American Flag. She loved it. Our final time with Linda was at Christmas time. Truly, singing for Linda has been a highlight for us. The Lord told me decades ago to "sing for one your healing song." We did that for Linda, and it was pure joy for us. I'm looking forward to seeing her in heaven, standing tall and vibrant. Being the world traveler that she was, she truly "saved the best for last!"

I met Linda and her lovely family decades ago when they came to live in Switzerland for two years. We immediately became much closer than mere neighbours and although since then we have lived thousands of miles apart we have remained very close. As luck would have it, my oldest school friend had moved to Vancouver so it was easy, by North American standards, to combine visits to both when I found myself in the area. We of course shared lots of fun, as well as sadder times, and Linda was always there, come what may. We especially shared a love, a passion, for Literature, so it seems fitting that one of Linda's lasting legacies here is that I regularly used 'Linda Moore's Shortbread Recipe' in my 'Introduction to Poetry' classes! She will consequently be remembered by many who never even met her, but oh! how she will be missed by those who did. 'To know her is to love her'. I cannot use the past tense as she will remain in our hearts for ever. Theank you, dear Linda, for being there.

Linda was the most amazing person. She never forgot to send a birthday card even when she was so ill. Her warm smile and being so positive even when she was in pain was amazing. I will always remember her encouraging words and wonderful smile

This very personal memory of Linda is over 30 years old: As part of our daughters’ graduation celebration, Linda and Diana, Jenn and I took a road trip to Ashland, Oregon, for the Shakespeare Festival. We stayed in a fun and funky old hotel, and I was so glad Linda and Diana were game to enjoy its quirkiness. We had such fun attending plays, trying new restaurants, shopping, and, for Linda and me, getting to know each other better. But my deeply special memory of Linda is full of gratitude. During the 500+ mile ride home, Linda and I sat for hours in the back seat and talked and talked. Two years before, I had had complications following a second cancer surgery when my primary emotional support collapsed. So I had wounds on top of wounds, which I tried to hide. Linda’s patient, kind, generous listening enabled me to talk about that time and release some of those old, painful feelings. Linda helped me heal. I remain so thankful for having known this beautiful person.

I had the opportunity to know Linda the past few years. She was always warm, engaging and kind. She had great stories to tell of her numerous adventures. Our conversations would usually involve laughter. Her absence creates a unique void that cannot be filled.
