** Linda chose not to have a memorial service or funeral, so please use this space to view and upload pictures and memories of her. **

Linda Woodbury Callin, 79, died in her sleep on December 22, 2021, having had no prior illnesses. Linda was born on August 7, 1942 in Washington DC. Her parents were Florence McGrew Woodbury and George Berdine Woodbury. Both preceded her in death.

Linda moved to Silver Spring, MD at 8 years old and spent the rest of her youth there. She graduated Northwood High School in 1960. Linda attended Frostburg State College, graduating with a teaching degree in 1964. She taught in the VA schools for several years, all in elementary education.

After teaching Linda worked for the International Association of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen in multiple roles. She retired in 2004.

Linda had two children. Teresa Christine Callin and Richard Wade Callin. The Callins lived in Fairfax, VA until they moved on to colleges and jobs. Linda lived in the same house for 34 years until she moved to Heritage Hunt, Gainesville, VA. Just two years ago she moved to an apartment close to her daughter in Gulf Breeze, FL. The pandemic made it a hard move.

Linda is survived by her children, her three beloved grandchildren, Brady Schramm, Elliott Schramm and Nilah Callin and her sister Carol Woodbury Fuller and several extended family members.

Beyond the joy of her children and grandchildren Linda loved traveling. She went to Africa, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand, many European cities, many Caribbean islands. She spent weeks in the summer at Chappaquiddick with her sister and weeks in the winter relaxing in FL with her sister and friends. She was a talented decorative painter and loved playing cards. Her VA bridge group lasted more than 40 years, until she moved to FL.

She will be remembered as a warm, kind, loving woman and will be missed, tremendously, by her family and many friends.

Dear Linda - thank you for being a wonderful colleague and an even better friend. While, we lost touch through the years, I have always remembered and been thankful for your presence in my life. So many times when I needed a voice of reason, you were there! You crossed my mind this evening and I thought I would look you up. So deeply sad to have found this memorial. Teresa and Ricky - you probably don’t remember meeting me, but I remember you both so well. Your mom was such a special person and laser focused on giving you the best life she could. You have my very sincerest condolences.

I met Linda in the late 70's at a skeet shoot. We quickly realized we were both bridge players and could pass the time at the shoot by playing. This is how I became involved in the Bridge Group (photo provided) where life-long friends were made. Linda was an excellent bridge player and a wonderful friend. We recently reconnected through Zoom and I am so thankful for that time we had together. My deepest sympathy to Teresa, Rick and Carol and all the other family.

Friends come and go but some friends are forever and that was Linda! We played bridge together for about 40 years. We talked a lot, shared all the good and the bad in our lives, played bridge, and had snacks. We often said one of us should write a book about all we shared. Linda was a true friend--she didn't judge, she wasn't condescending, she listened and gave her opinion only when I asked for it. And I knew she would always be there if I needed her. She loved her children and grandchildren and talked about them a lot. I will miss her--a lot !

I met Linda when I joined The Bridge Group. Occasionally, we would meet for breakfast where she introduced me to the delicious pancake/sausage special. Our conversations were as hearty as the food. Linda had a way of making every activity something special, emblematic of the special person she was.

Best friends for over 44 years. We shared many trips together creating life-long memories and a special bond with the Bridge Group. We not only played cards together but also did many community events helping the under privileged. Linda was our leader and her energy, compassion, and empathy will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.
