I am writing a memoir and when I was remembering some of the places I lived as a child, I thought of my cousin, Leonard Shykind. They called him "Corky." He was just a month older than me. My mother, Rose Tenenbaum Kummel, was the daughter of Henry and Ida Tenenbaum, and I still have an old photo of Ida's family when Hope (we called her Aunt Rose) was a baby. So Leonard was the son of my mother's mother's sister. We lived downstairs of Hope and Maury when I was about eight years old. The address was 1511 Jonquil Terrace in Chicago. I went to Gale School. We weren't there very long. They called me "Cookie." I remember Eddie also. Sorry to hear that Leonard passed. If anyone wants to contact me, I'm leaving my name and email address.

So many happy, fun memories with Len. Hikes on Thanksgiving Day up Camelback Mountain. After dinner, Len made it a tradition to run the turkey carcass up the flag pole. He took us for scary rides vertically up huge boulders in the Jeep, praying we wouldn’t flip over. Lots of fun times out in the pool while Len brought us drinks. Fun, wild, New Year's Eve parties. One of my favorite memories was when I was about 7 years old. Len was dating Sandy and he came to pick her up one day. I looked at him and asked “are you going to marry my Aunt Sandy? My grandmother looked at him, with the look of “well, are you?” The rest his history and that question earned me a spot in their wedding party as the flower girl and the nickname of spindly legged Shari. Thank you for the fun times Uncle Len and for always being there for me.

I have so many wonderful memories of the time my family spent with your family, sharing holidays, meals and days around the pool. Especially memorable were the times I was "one of the guys" and went out exploring the desert with Len, Murray and my Dad, Joel. We'd come home filthy and sunburned and Sandy and my Mom, Annette, would have delicious meals prepared and waiting. I especially appreciate the videos Len put together and emailed me just a few years ago. May he rest in eternal peace. My deepest condolences to all of you.

Had such a large personality. Always made a huge impression every time I conversed with him. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. His sense of humor will be unforgettable. He could also sell ice to an Eskimo. During alll my memories of him, he had such a good time. I did not see him often over the last decade, but it is a testament to him that each time I encountered him was so memorable. To the entire Shykind family, I am so sorry for your loss. He leaves quite a void. But, the memories I have of him are so happy. Take care Jeremy Peskoff

Dear Sandy and Family, We've lost a great one! I will always have Len and your family in my heart as I walk through my front door with the beautiful Mezuzah on my front doorpost. Len sent it to me when I moved in recently. Thank you. We always had a great time when we were together in band. He was a fine player on trombone and a dedicated musician, and an outstanding promoter of all the bands he played in. We'll all miss him and his youthful playfulness. So, allow me to quote our guru of mirth, Mel Brooks, who once said: "Hello boys, get a good nights rest? I missed you!" Love you, Len. I will miss you, too! Romeo
