Laurie Lindsay Roland
September 5th, 1953 - June 12th, 2022
September 5th, 1953 - June 12th, 2022
Laurie Lindsay Roland was born on September 5th, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN and left this world on June 12th, 2022. She passed away in her dream home in Evergreen CO, surrounded by her husband of 46 years, her daughters, and her beloved Golden Retriever.
One of Laurie's greatest life challenges was her battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a debilitating neurological disease. From the day of her diagnosis to her final hours she fought the disease in the same way she lived her entire life: valiantly, with fierce courage and determination. She had an infectious laugh, a compassionate and nurturing heart, adventurous spirit, and quiet wisdom, all of which the disease never managed to steal from her.
Laurie grew up in Wayzata, MN on Lake Minnetonka with her parents, Hugh and Rhoda Lindsay and her three siblings Jim, Dan, and Rhoda Lindsay. She relocated to Colorado for college in 1973 where she met the love of her life, Bernie Roland. Bernie and Laurie fell in love and shared a passion for adventure and outdoor life. They were avid skiers, backpackers and skydivers. They married in 1976 and their two daughters Hillary and Michelle were born in 1979 and 1982, respectively. During the past 5 years, Laurie welcomed three grandchildren into the world, Ceres, Orion, and Finlay who were born in the very same house In which Laurie & Bernie raised their daughters.
Above all else, her family was her pride and joy.
Laurie enjoyed children. While her daughters were in school, Laurie was an active volunteer with schools in Evergreen. Later she would volunteer at Camp Comfort, a Mt Evans Hospice sponsored children's camp for grieving children.
One of Laurie’s greatest contributions to the world was her life’s work: owning and operating Camp Chateaugay, a children’s summer camp in upstate New York. Over the 17 years of her ownership and direction, she touched countless lives, providing comfort, confidence, and inspiration to children and staff members alike. Her greatest joys came from traveling the world and embarking on great life adventures. Her travels took her to six continents where she enjoyed all her destinations had to offer. Laurie was an accomplished snow and water skier, skydiver, mountain biker, SCUBA diver, sailboat and power yacht captain, swimmer, tennis player, backpacker, pheasant hunter, snowshoer, and gardener - just to name a few.
Laurie's memory and spirit will live on through her husband Bernie, daughters Hillary and Michelle, grandchildren Ceres, Orion, and Finlay and all those her nurtering soul impacted.
May her soul fly free, shining light on the natural world and those who loved her.
