i studied 2nd and 3rd standard in Primary school(ssbj). 1967 onwards. I remember Madam Kusum Bhat and Vaze madam. Madam Kusum Bhat laid the foundation for our entry into sainik school 5th standard. Faint remembrances (even after more than 55 years), Madam Bhat handled the boys well with ever smiling face and cheerful outlook.

Sad to hear of her passing away.. was thinking about meeting her at B’lore.. not to be. My reminisces date back to 1969 when I happened to join the Primary School in the Sainik school campus & then Sainik school, the NDA & the Army. Many a thing she said & the encouraging words have been ringing & given me confidence all my life.. Pray peace to her soul.

Bhat madam was the Headmistress for all the 5 years that I was in primary school. She did not take any classes for us, other than the special coaching classes for the entrance exam of the main school. But she was omnipresent, hands on and knew each student very well. It is said that human minds are shaped at that young age itself and Madam has shaped 1000s of us during her long, dedicated tenure. I met her about 35 years later, and yet she remembered me and enquired about my parents too. She was always cheerful, very caring but always in control. A very able administrator. Thank you Madam for shaping us so well. This portrait is made by my cousin Govind Bhutada who also studied in the same school. He joins me in paying this tribute and respects. May her soul rest in peace. Om Shanti. Forever in gratitude. CA Rajgopal Bhutada Bangalore

Some people whom we come across in life leave a lasting impression with their kindness and love. Kusum aunty was one such person whom I met a couple of times during my younger days and will always remember. I met aunty in '78 in Bijapur. Deepak and I were not only from the same batch but also in the same house (Adil Shahi) in School. During one of the breaks (2nd Sunday?) in SSBJ, she invited me home. I still remember my visit and the sumptuous food she cooked. She always treated me like her own son and I stayed at their place a few more times by the time I left Bijapur in 1985. Fast forward to '87 or '88 and I was studying in Srinagar. One evening, one of my friends told me that someone had come to meet me. Of course, I wasn't expecting anyone then. When I saw Kusum aunty and Bhat Sir, I was pleasantly surprised ... It was as if my parents had come to meet me. We chatted for about an hour or two over a cup of tea. I cherish this moment even to this day. In short, she was an epitome of kindness and compassion. Aunty - I know that you are in a better place. Om Shanthi.

Bhat Mam, She was my headmistress in sainik school till 4th standard. She attended my wedding in Pune, I was overwhelmed when she came. Unfortunately I couldn't meet her after that. She's was and will be always very dear to me, have great regards and respect for her. I learnt a lot from her though I was still very small. May her soul rest in peace. Anu Joshi Barve
