Susan Elston

Karlene “Susan” Fern Hald left us to be with the Lord on January 1st, 2021.  Susan lived to be 79 years old.

Susan was born on June 16th, 1941 in Long Beach, CA.  Born to parents LaVerne “Mimi” Josephine Hald and Carl R. Hald, they raised their three children in Palos Verdes and then later moved to Harbor City Pines in 1947.

 Susan graduated from Narbonne High School in 1959 and then married her high school sweetheart, Troy Scott. The couple resided in San Pedro and had two children. Susan later moved to Harbor City, where she lived the rest of her life.  Susan was devoted to her job as a Procurement Agent for Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes until she retired in 2005.  She also worked for many years with Van de Kamp’s bakery, and more recently was serving as a caretaker for elderly patients in the South Bay area.

As a longtime resident of Harbor City, she loved to attend church, care for animals, and enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Her faith was a defining element of her life, and she worked tirelessly to share her Christian values in word and in deed.  Her giving nature was truly unique and embodied the values of her faith.  Her generosity and giving spirit will live on as an example to strive for in all who knew her.

Susan is survived by two sons, David Scott of Laguna Hills and Don Scott of Coto de Caza, her two siblings, Carol Walden of Simi Valley and Richard Hald of Torrance, and four grandchildren, Brian, Kaili, Shae, and Sean.  Susan was deeply loved by her family and close friends and will be deeply missed.    

Susan’s family will hold a private service on Saturday, February 6th, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park, at which time she will be laid to rest beside her parents.  Due to current events, capacity for the service is limited, but for those that wish to participate virtually, the internet link to view the service live or via recording may be found at the following website:

Animals were one of the great loves of Susan’s life, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests that those so inclined consider supporting a local cat rescue organization.
