Joy Beth Young died peacefully in Tualatin, Oregon on August 12, 2020, at the age of 74.

Joy is survived by her brothers Bob (Diana) Young of Cedar Park TX, Phil Young of Austin, TX, sisters Mary (Ron) Chadwick of Ocean Shores WA, and Paula Arthur of Tillamook, OR, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband Richard Simons and daughter Julie Hood Crawford.

Joy was born on April 4, 1946, in Austin, Texas to Billy Mack Young and Doris Helen Roselle Attebery. Joy was the first child for Billy and Doris. Growing up she traveled to many places over the country and world with her mother and stepfathers. Joy was especially fond of her maternal grandparents, William and Anna Roselle who had moved from Austin to Portland Oregon. She adoringly called them Mamaw and Papaw. She lived with them during high school and she learned to cook from Grandma Roselle becoming marvelously gifted at it. She continued her passion for preparing wonderful meals up to the time of her passing.

Joy passionately loved her pets and had many throughout the years. She didn’t just have “dogs”, but she considered them her babies and treated as such. She particularly enjoyed the small Chihuahua and Terrier breeds and they loved her immensely.

Joy was especially close to her nephew Jason McClung and his wife Kim the last few years of her life. Both of them cared deeply for her and her pups, Rojo and Hallie. They went extraordinarily out of their way to assist her in moving several times and taking care of her pups for several months while she was in and out of hospitals and recovery care centers. Without their help, her sister Paula would not have endured at staying sane.

Joy was affectionately known as “Aunt Joy” to many nephews, nieces, and several of their children and grandchildren. Many of them lived in Texas and didn’t see them as often but she became very close to some of the ones in Oregon. Joy was loved by family and friends and most of them would say she was a lot of fun to be with. She had a great sense of humor and was also known for not holding back and telling it like it was. She will be missed and not soon be forgotten.
