Souvenirs

Joseph Rocco Tedesco, of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away on February 17, 2021, just two days short of his 80th birthday. “Joe” passed away peacefully surrounded by his children.

Joe was born on February 19, 1941 to Dominick and Rosemary Tedesco in Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Erie Technical High School in 1959 and served in the Army National Guard Reserves for two years. Afterward, Joe immediately began working in a field which was close to his heart, commercial printing, which he continued to do throughout his lifetime. He founded his own business, Depot Press, which he loved. Even after “retiring” a few years ago, Joe could not stay away and recently started yet another business.

After meeting in church, he married the love of his life Diane Lynn (Graziano) Tedesco on October 13, 1962 and went on to have three children, Joseph Robert Tedesco, Todd David Tedesco, and Kelli Jo (Tedesco) Smith.

Joe was a long standing member of Idlewild Baptist Church.

Joe was predeceased by his father and mother, Dominick and Rosemary Tedesco. He is survived by his wife, Diane; his two brothers, Paul and Jon Tedesco; his three children, Joseph Robert Tedesco, Todd David Tedesco, and Kelli Jo Smith; daughter-in-law, Diane Tedesco; and son-in-law, Kevin Smith. He was also blessed with five grandchildren, Camille (and husband Gio), Dante, Joe, Enzo, and Luca as well as two beautiful great grandchildren, Samuel and Amelia.

Everything Joe did was for his family. Joe was dedicated to his family and numerous friends that were blessed enough to know his kind soul. We take comfort in knowing that Joe is resting at peace with his Lord, whom he had a deep relationship with his entire life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Tampa Covenant Church, 13320 Lake Magdalene Blvd., Tampa, FL 33618 on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa, Florida. www.metromin.org.

I was heartbroken to hear of Joe's passing. A quote by Issac Newton comes to mind, when I think of the postive influence Joe has had in my life, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” For me, Joe was THAT giant! I first met him, as a print client, for Depot Press. Later, I began freelancing for him, and spent many, many hours working in the print shop, with Joe and his family. Over the years, our relationship changed, from client, to mentor, to friend. No matter how hard times became, he was a reminder, to first lean of your faith, and trust God. I learned the value of integrity, in business, and life, the importance of family, and just how important, is was to laugh in life, especially at ourselves. Sadly, I will not be able to make it to his memorial. I live hundreds of miles away now. However, I will keep his family and other friends in mind. I will mourn this great loss, but also celebrate, the blessing that God gave me, by allowing me the opportunity, to have such a wonderful mentor and friend in life. You will be forever missed big guy.

We first met Joe and Diane in 2009, shortly before Kelli and Kevin’s wedding. They were both so warm and welcoming that it felt like we were joining families with the Tedescos. And, so we did. We saw them almost every time we visited Kelli and Kevin and we shared a grandson with them. In every conversation with Joe, his love for his family was palpable. He was always involved in his kids’ and grandkids’ lives. He beamed when he talked of them. He was a gentle, cheerful man. We will miss him.

Joe was my older brother by 2 1/2 years and we spent more time together growing up. Paul, my younger brother by 6 years had his own friends. I was the infamous mister in-between. I can remember many times when Joe and I were working at our dad's printshop which we had to do after school each day while we both were in high school. I also liked working on cars as a young teenager and built my first hot rod before I even had a drivers license. Joe would drive me to the dragstrip once in a while where I could race it and then drive me back home. That was a very humbling experience. I joined the National Guard while a senior in high school and served my active duty time immediately upon graduation and shortly after returning back home in Erie Pennsylvania moved to California. I don't remember Joe also serving in National Guard probably because I was gone by then. Most of our adult lives we lived across the country from each other and did not get to visit very often but did stay in touch by mail, phone and more recently online. We are keeping the family in our prayers and are awaiting a great reunion with all those who have gone before us when the Lord returns.

Mom and I lived next door to Joe for about 20 years. We didn't become close until about 10 years ago after he retired from his beloved printing business. He would come over and sit in our garage and tell us stories about his life. He was a fascinating man who loved his family very much. He sometimes had a tough exterior but was a teddy bear at heart. We miss him and our great conversations.
