John Fryer

FRYER, John Edward, born in Birmingham, England, died peacefully on 2 nd November, in his home in Downingtown, PA, USA at the age of 90, with family members by his side. Loving husband to Kathy Kauterman and the late Jeanne (née Carr). Much loved father of Sarah, Rachel, and step-father to Shanna. Proud grandfather of Rosanna, Felix, Christopher, Joshua, and step-grandchildren, Louis and Isabella. Beloved brother to June, Richard, and to the late Muriel. John enjoyed a full, active, and varied life as a music teacher, working in the UK, Uganda, and the USA. His final teaching job before retirement was at Kitebrook House Preparatory School, Gloucestershire. John was also organist and choirmaster at several parish churches; most notably Bromsgrove Parish Church, and St. James, Chipping Campden. Sadly, Jeanne died shortly after retirement. Having met Kathy when her choir toured to the UK, John remarried and began a new and happy chapter of his life in Pennsylvania. John served as organist and choir director of St. John's Episcopal Church in Gap, PA for 7 years, and interim organist and choir director at St. Frances in the Fields Episcopal Church in Malvern, PA. Additionally, John was the choir director of the Sunshine Singers, right up until his 89th year. John's lively presence and quick wit will be very much missed by family, friends, and all who knew him in England and his adopted home in the United States, where a celebration of his life will be held.
