Oh - so many memories of Uncle JC! I vividly remember him consoling me when I broke some trinket at your house... sitting patiently through one of our inspired dramatic elementary productions... telling silly stories from back in the day and making my dad laugh harder than anybody else in the world could. Uncle JC in the pulpit... Uncle JC giving my grandfather's eulogy... Uncle JC with Aunt Janice counseling us during our engagement & officiating our wedding... Uncle JC on the grill at the lake house... I consider it one my greatest advantages in life to have had the privilege of knowing good men like Uncle JC "up close and personal"; he didn't just talk the talk, he was the real deal. We will miss him terribly, but we know that he is where he knew he'd be right now: absent from his body but present with the Lord. Aunt Janice, Rowena, Tabi & Travis - you all have our love & prayers.

Tabi Upton
J.C. Upton was a special man. He absolutely loved people and never met a stranger. He was humorous and loved to tell funny stories. He loved God and dedicated his life to ministry, pastoring, overseas missions, and teaching. Many people called him "daddy" because of his warm and inviting nature. He was easy to talk to, and you could say just about anything in front of him, expressing your true thoughts and feelings. He was no push over---he loved a good argument and stood strong for the people and things he believed in. As a father, he was fun and daring. He made sure his children experienced life! My siblings and I learned to swim, canoe, hike, shoot, camp, and speak up for ourselves. We were allowed to choose our colleges, travel overseas as teens, and try new things. He loved being a grandfather, teaching the younger generation like skills and watching them grow. As a husband to my mother, I watched him write love poems to her, buy her lingerie, and cherish her above all other women. He was a great daddy! I love you Daddoo.
