Janet M. Cummins (Wagner), age 49, passed away at her Grand Island home on Friday May 8, 2020. She was born on October 11, 1970, to the late John C. Wagner and the late JoAnne Wagner (Finch). Janet grew up in Warsaw and pursued advanced nursing degrees following graduation. She was very passionate about her healthcare career and particularly enjoyed working with developmentally disabled individuals. Janet was also an avid animal lover who spent her free time caring for her own rescue pets and those of others. She often expressed her generosity and kindness through cooking, as she could frequently be found preparing meals for friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents, Janet is predeceased by her half-sister, Jody R. Webster. Janet is survived by her daughter, Laura E. Cummins; her sister, Joyce A. Wagner; and half-brother, David C. Webster. Immediate services will be held virtually due to current conditions. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the SPCA Serving Erie County (information below) or a local animal sheltering organization of your choice. This is to have succeeded." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I was very sad to hear of Janet's passing. It brought me to tears. At one time in life in high school we were inseparable. We had so many fun times. I loved her spunk and her love for an adventure. (I truly miss her and her sister Joyce) My only regret is that is after high school we went different ways, and lost touch. I have had many fond memories over the years of the many adventures we had in school, and will always cherish that. My heart goes out to Joyce, you are in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry you have to endure loosing your twin sister.

Janet was one of the most kind, compassionate and caring people I ever met. I had the pleasure of working alongside her in Denton, TX where she worked tirelessly to ensure the best care was provided to those served. She took a thoughtful approach in everything she did and made lifelong friends along the way. She opened her home to me in Austin for a few months when I had a job transfer and was looking for a home in the area. She would not take no for an answer as that's just who she was. The time we spent together will always be looked upon fondly. As many know, she had a knack for cooking and loved entertaining friends. And no matter how bad of a day she had, she remained positive and always kept a smile on her face. I remember when Janet found pug. Concerned that someone may have lost their pet, she created fliers and posted them around the neighborhood. She wanted to make sure that Pug was safely reunited with his owner because again, that is just who she was. Little did she know that he would soon become a member of the family. To Laura, Joyce, Kif and many other friends and family, I offer my deepest condolence. She will be truly missed as her friendship was unwavering and one I will value forever.

I worked with Janet at American Habilitation Services. She was smart, funny, capable, and dedicated. I have many fond memories but my favorite may be helping her find a house in Austin or building the deck for a mother. Hard to believe she is gone

For me, Janet was ever-ready to share a giggle paired with a slightly mischievous nudge, which I always found endearing. Growing up with her in Warsaw, I remember there was a fearlessness about her that made me feel she was wise beyond her years--as though she had experiences that many of us her age had not had. I think it was this understanding of the world and compassion for those in need that remains most salient for me. She had a particular gift at making one feel special. A few years ago, I was back in western NY and Joyce had thrown a party to introduce me and my partner to her friends in Corn Hill. Janet made the trip from Buffalo to see us and brought some of the "goodies" she was famous for. (There have been many days where she has given me dinner ideas based on the pictures she posted on facebook of her cooking endeavors-always so appetizing.) She even gave us an extra bag of delectables to take home with us after the party. I was moved that she had taken the time and made such an effort to come to see me. She was a very special person whom I will remember with great fondness.
