Ira Resnick

On Monday, April 5th, 2020, Ira Resnick passed away at the age of 73 peacefully, in his home, surrounded by the ones who love him most. Ira was born March 26th, 1948 to Louis and Cecily Resnick. He spent the first of half of his life in Pennsylvania and the remainder of his life in Texas after moving there in 1985. Ira leaves behind his devoted wife of 44 years, Kathy Resnick. They raised 3 daughters, Emily, Lillian, and Liz. He absolutely adored his four grandchildren, Willow, Max, Leon, and Rowan. Ira often acknowledged that the only thing that mattered in life were the relationships you make, and nothing made him prouder than to see the kind of women his daughters turned out to be. Ira received his Bachelor's in 1974 and completed his Masters in Special Education in 1988. Ira played a special part in the lives of students at TDCJ's Windham School District. He had a unique ability as an educator to work with those currently incarcerated to prepare them with the skills needed to re-enter the workforce. Ira was an avid martial-arts enthusiast, apparent in both his continued activity throughout his life (he was working on his black belt prior to his stroke) and the full Bruce Lee VHS collection he kept stashed in his closet. Maybe Ira's most distinct feature was his great love and interest in people. Ira never met a stranger and wanted to connect with all people and with his enormous stature (and even bigger personality) that was easy. He will be remembered for his big laugh, big hugs, inappropriate jokes, and unique conversational skills.
