2 de enero de 1943 - 21 de marzo de 2024
Gloria Jean Thacker, of Parkersburg, WV passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024 at the age of 81. She is best remembered for her acts of service towards others and her unwavering devotion as a mother and grandmother.
Gloria was born on January 2, 1943 in Parkersburg, WV to Walter C. Hoce and Edna V. McMullen. She was the oldest of three siblings which began her lifelong dedication of nurturing others. Gloria was a graduate of the Parkersburg High School Class of 1961. Beyond her familial roles, Gloria served as a clerical staff member for many years in the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital laboratory department. It was here, in the early 1970s, she met her beloved husband Dr. Charles W. Thacker. Gloria can also be honored for many other titles including former director of the Parkersburg Day Nursery, a member of Trinity Episcopcal Church, and a friend to the “Mongoose Gang”.
There are many stories, accolades, and triumphs that can be shared about Gloria’s life, but her highest honor includes her loyalty and support to her family. She played a steadfast role in the upbringing of her grandchildren and the caretaking of many close relatives. It was well known that her favorite pastime included making memories with her family and celebrating all of life’s milestones she felt blessed to witness along the way. Beyond those she loved, Gloria had a strong passion for rescuing animals and spoiling her pets, most recently, her beloved “Zilla”. Gloria was most at home in nature, feeding wild animals, bird watching, and gardening. She was a devout WVU Mountaineer fan, never missing the opportunity for a good game, no matter the outcome.
Gloria is preceded in death by parents Edna V. McMullen and Walter C. Hoce, brother Walter “Gary” Hoce, and late husband Charles “Woody” Thacker.
Her loss is strongly felt by those she is survived by including her son Don Thacker, daughter Amy Thacker, and sister Rebecca Moore (Roger). Gloria is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild including Olivia Merritt (Cody), Sarah Hill (Wade), Bruce Sidwell II, Jenna Sidwell, John Janssen, and Monroe Merritt. Gloria always made sure to show continual love and support toward several distant relatives including step grandchildren, nieces/nephews, great nieces and nephews, and honorary family members that she took under her wing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Parkersburg, in Gloria’s honor.
A private cremation will take place at Mid-Ohio Valley Cremation Society.
