Souvenirs

Gerald "Jerry" Bost, 73, of Green Valley, AZ, passed away on January 1, 2024 at home with his wife, daughters, and granddaughters - his girls. He was born in Arlington, VA and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Army (1968-71). During his tour in Chu Lai Vietnam (1969-70) he served as a door gunner. His last post at Ft Carson led to a love of Colorado where he spent the majority of his life.

After his military service, Jerry pursued a career as an aircraft mechanic and later became a small business owner. He was the go-to handyman for many, always ready to lend a helping wrench to clients, friends, and family. Known for his resourcefulness and hard work, he earned the respect and trust of all who knew him.

His talents and passions were many: In his youth, Jerry played baseball and his love of the sport and camaraderie led to a lifelong passion for competitive league softball. When he wasn’t swinging for the fences or making an ESPN catch in the outfield, you may have seen him sharing a joke or celebratory (or consolation) beverage in the parking lot. The team could always count on Jerry to supply the perfect tunes to set the mood.

Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor, integrity, and caring nature. He'd give the shirt off his back and was a true champion for his loved ones. His stubbornness and fighting spirit made him a force to be reckoned with, and his keen wit brought laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jody, his daughters Katie and Jessi (Brett), his granddaughters Jules and Jett, his sister Nancy (Gary), and a large tribe of cherished family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, and his son, Jason. Jerry's memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.

At Jerry’s request no formal gathering is planned. It would be difficult to pick a location, as friends and family are spread far and wide. Instead, he wanted people to gather with their loved ones and share a laugh honoring his memory; he believed laughter was the best medicine of all. In honor of Jerry’s courageous battle against such an aggressive enemy, please consider making a contribution in his name to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

Jerry Bost will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

We are so heartbroken about Jerry's passing. Jerry was so kind-hearted and brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He was a beloved husband to Jody, and together they were an inseparable pair. Jerry's generosity knew no bounds, and his sense of humor was infectious. We will miss his annual visits, where we loved to see him play baseball, where we shared good food, great stories, and lots of love. Jerry's family was his pride and joy, and he spoke with such love and adoration of his grandbabies. His smile was never bigger when he talked about them. We take comfort in knowing that Jerry's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. Rest in peace, Jerry. We love you. Tom & Karen

Played many games with Jerry as a teammate and opposition in our BAJA and Tucson Slowpitch community. Counted him as a great friend who I new could be called upon on for most anything. Honored to co-manage his last BAJA team where he played even though he was not feeling well. We sorely miss him.

We're all still reeling from losing you, "Uncle Jerry." How did such a thing happen, we ask again? How to make sense of any of this. We won't, but the memories are always with us, your light continues to shine. What a constant source of good humor, kindness and love you always were. I have so many wonderful memories of you tending one of our numerous toddlers in Mom's pool--so tender and careful you were with our little ones. I am so sad that you did not have more time with your own sweet granddaughters. Thank for you all of our many talks--some very serious--grieving our Jasons--some hilarious "I am running away. Form Jerry" Thank you for the hours you spent during the summer of 2020 puttering around my house, finding projects that I didn't even know needed doing. I loved the hours the four of us spent on the patio playing cards and Rummikub. You said you hated that game and then continued to trounce us. What a fun summer! You and Jody kept me going and moving forward (mostly) during those awful first months/years after David's death. Thank you for being the dad Kodi really never had--goofy, teasing, but serious when it came to teaching her to drive. I promise I will help your girls in every way I can. They love you so and that will never change. I miss you, Uncle Jerry, and you're in my heart, always my brother. "Aunt" Linda loves you

There are many people we meet in our lives but only a few that make a lasting impression. Jerry was one of those special people. Jerry was a part of our softball fraternity that went beyond playing the game and grew into a bond of friendship and family. Jerry was always there to support you at all times and would always listen and offer advice. I guess that wisdom comes as we grow older!!! My favorite memory of Jerry was at every tournament game we played, I as an infielder would try to position Jerry in left field based on the hitters tendencies. I would always yell at him “good hitter” and on those occasions when he heard me, he would yell back they are all good hitters! This became a standing banter between us. I will think of you often my friend, will miss you dearly and always look towards left field and remember you. David Maestas
