Recuerdos

Florence “Floy” Edna Blore, 85, passed peacefully April 5, 2025, in a care center in Carmichael, CA.

Born in 1939 in St. Mary’s, PA, she was the daughter of Paul and Viola (née Wilson) Dippold. She was raised a devout Catholic in Rochester, NY, and attended East Rochester High School, where she was a member of the majorette corps and the National Honor Society. She went on to earn a Secretarial Science credential from Rochester Institute of Technology.

With a strong work ethic, she forged a four-decade career in the graphic arts, starting in the Broadcast Advertising Department at Eastman Kodak. During her career, she and her husband Geoff combined their talents to run Preplan Graphics, a commercial printing business in Sunnyvale, CA.

Florence joined bowling leagues and professional graphic arts associations throughout the years, and was a member of the Monroe ski club in Rochester in the early 1960s.

Upon retiring, she relocated from the South Bay Area to Roseville, CA. She took community education classes, earning a graphic design certificate, and dedicated 10 years to volunteering at Sutter Hospice's Thrift Store.

Family and friends will always remember her inquisitive, friendly demeanor. She believed that everyone had a story worth telling and took great joy in hearing them, making each person feel important and understood. She made it her mission to stay connected, picking up the phone just to ask how you were doing, or to remember a birthday. Her gentle, unassuming manner belied her legendary love of the 49ers. Come game time, she was as fierce as a linebacker and always ready for a play-by-play recap! Though describing herself as “shy,” she could dole out witty comebacks and was the master of a good surprise or prank.

Florence loved simple pleasures: “going for drives,” exploring local attractions, table tennis, and meeting her friends for lunch or an afternoon at the local casino.

In her later years, nothing brought her more happiness than being a grandmother to Ames Atherton (16) and Mia Potter (11), a role in which her kindness, conscientious care, and boundless love truly shone.

She is survived by her daughters, Katie Atherton (Chad) and Susie Potter (Jeff); her grandchildren, Ames Atherton and Mia Potter; and her nephews, Rick and Mark LaPaglia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Vivian Dippold, and her husband of 50 years, Geoff Blore.

The family would like to thank Manzanita Health Care and Suncrest Hospice for their assistance during the final months of her illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if you wish, may be made to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 160045, Sacramento, CA 95816
