Souvenirs

Eric Greyson Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 70. Born on February 4, 1955, Eric lived a life defined by integrity, compassion, and an unwavering positive spirit.

His distinguished finance career included 35 years at IBM followed by years as CFO at Aricent, Altran, Capgemini, and NewRocket, where his leadership and character earned him deep respect from colleagues across the globe. His sharp mind, quick wit, and steady hand helped guide his team through times of transformation and growth, but it was his calm demeanor and ethical compass that made the greatest impact on those around him. In all his positions, he thoroughly enjoyed working with, developing, and promoting his finance teams throughout the world.

He felt honored to serve as a board member for the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (“CdLS”), dedicating his financial guidance and calm confidence to support families and advance awareness for a condition that affected his daughter Emily.

Despite his immensely successful career, Eric’s life revolved around his family – in particular, his wife, Nancy, and son, Anders. Whether it was golf trips or sporting events with Anders—especially football and basketball at their shared alma mater, the University of Michigan—traveling the world with Nancy, or simply dozing off on the couch as they watched TV, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with the people he loved most.

Eric is survived by his devoted son, Anders; his loving wife, Nancy; his sister, Murray; and many other family members and close friends that cherished his presence. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Emily, and his parents, James and Elizabeth.

Those who knew Eric will remember him for his unshakable integrity, his warm and generous nature, and the optimism he carried even in the most difficult moments. He was a steady light for his loved ones and leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, courage, kindness, and humility.

A private memorial will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the CdLS Foundation. Please also consider donating blood. During football season, give a “Go Blue” for Eric when Michigan is on.

I got to know Eric when I joined the Finance committee for the CdLS Foundation a little over 10 years ago. I remember Eric reaching out to me and making me feel very welcome. While we connected early on because we both had financial backgrounds, we learned that we each had a passion for sports, including the rivalry between the University of Michigan (Eric's alma mater) and the University of Notre Dame (mine). I joined the Board of Directors for the CdLS Foundation not long after Eric and I had the pleasure of working closely together on both finance and Board related topics. In the past 10 years in getting to know Eric, I recognized the true goodness in him. He operated with the highest level of integrity, had a calmness about him, and always seemed to offer a good thought or opinion. He was an inspiration and someone you wanted to emulate. I will miss Eric, but I know that he had a profound impact on my life, as well as many others, including those in the CdLS community.

Being Eric's grandniece, I will forever miss him deeply. Even though he lived six hours away from us he would always come to my birthday parties, and whenever we visited he would always give us hugs and make us feel welcome in his home. He was an amazing Uncle to me, Emma, and my little sister, Tessa. I am so glad we got to spend some time with you, Aunt Nancy and 'uncle' Anders, when we visited a few weeks ago. My heart breaks for both of you. You are all forever in my heart. Love, Emma

Having been friends with Anders since we met in college, I had the true pleasure of getting to know Eric. To say he was the standard of what a good man is, is an understatement. Incredibly successfully at the highest levels of his industry, a devoutly committed family man to the point of mutually being best friends with his son, and truly a positive influence in the world with his genoristy. With his quick wit, encyclopedic knowledge of history/sports/politics, wry smile, and kind spirit anyone who knew him's life is better for it. I am still shocked by his passing and the world has lost a good one. My deepest condolences to Anders, Nancy, and the rest of the family.

I worked with Eric for many years on the Board of the CdLS Foundation and he was someone I constantly relied on for his insight and experience. I will always remember Eric as being funny and telling jokes, often at my expense. But I also knew Eric would see whatever things we were dreaming about and responding with "this is really important, how can we make it happen?" His "can do" attitude was infectious and I love how he taught us all to find ways to make important things a priority. In our meetings, I loved hearing about Nancy and his stories of attending sporting events with Anders. It always reminded me that as busy as we all may be and as much as we may work on important things, creating memories with family is essential. God bless you Eric.
