Erb Mowery

13 février - 21 décembre 2020
Erb Mowery of Clinton, Tennessee passed away on Dec.21, 2020. He was born on his mother’s birthday, Feb. 13,1932, in Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his soulmate, Frances Mowery just two short months ago. Also preceding him was his only son, Robert Mowery, his parents, six siblings, and his sister-in-law, Anita Nichols.
The world has lost a giant-not in stature, but in heart and wisdom. Our Dad was a man of many talents and interests. He especially enjoyed working in the Food Pantry and with the Thanks-4-Giving Project at Highland View Church of Christ. He often stood in as a father figure when needed especially with a couple of his grandchildren. Even his friends have commented on how much they valued his advice and insight. As a hiker, Dad was fifty miles short of completing all the trails of the Smokies. He especially enjoyed the beauty of nature. If you have one of Dad’s hand-carved angels, Santas, or hummingbirds you hold a special treasure. His work with stained glass and replicating antique tables was masterful. There was not anything he couldn’t grow! Although busy with church work, and all his myriad of interests, Dad always made time for a chat and a story. Dad’s heart and wisdom inspired and influenced many people throughout his life.
Erb Mowery is survived by his two daughters, Vicki McKamey, and husband, Don; Donna McPheeters; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mowery. Erb was Grandad to four special grandchildren, Michelle Bailey and husband, Grant; Joe McKamey and wife, Sarah; Joshua McPheeters and wife, Dr. Chelsey McPheeters; and Dr. Morgan McPheeters and significant other, Jake Holt. In addition, he had five very special great-grandchildren, Kenzie Hodnett, and husband, Jake; Eli McKamey, Micah McKamey, Ruby Bailey, Lucy Bailey, and Copeland McPheeters. Erb is survived by brothers-in-law, Bobby Nichols, and Ted Nichols and wife, Ruth. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Erb Mowery deeply loved all of these people, but most of all our giant loved his God. Together, he and our mom taught us, by example, the power of love, faith, prayer, and forgiveness. What a gift they were!
Erb Mowery will be forever missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends. He also counted his Highland View Church of Christ brethren as close family. Erb Mowery was truly a giant among men.
Due to Covid 19, there will only be a Video Memorial Service celebrating the life of Erb Mowery on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 7:00 PM. The link to the service can be found at www.highlandview.church/erb-mowery.htm . In addition, a link to leave thoughts and stories can be found at https://www.mykeeper.com/profile/ErbMowery. A gathering to celebrate the lives of Erb and Frances Mowery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Erb would have loved a donation to one of the programs at Highland View Church of Christ, 138 Providence Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830
