Dudley, 58 years of friendship, always genuine , sincere, committed, punctual, artistic, a true joiner. Memories we will always have.
Jean Depradine-Small
Dudley and I have been friends forever, as I can remember him as long as I can remember myself. We both grew up on Briggs Alley, off Green Street, St. Georges Grenada. Dudley always had a jovial personality with a happy-go-lucky attitude and could see the humor in anything. His laugh resounded all over. He had pet names or nick names for family and friends. These always had a story or incident attached to it. He also had one "Bakay". There was another side to him. He was kind, sincere and took his commitments seriously. I can remember meeting his daughter, Anne-Marie, as a baby for the first time, and was amazed to see him change and dress her with such love and care. This love continued throughout his life. I always relate this story to my friends and when ever I have to convince someone that one will do what ever one wants to do despite any difficulties. On my wedding day, July 04, 1970, Dudley took the train from Toronto to Montreal to attend my wedding. He flew back the same day to be on time for his work at the hospital. We kept in contact via phone calls on holidays, birthdays and on other special occasions. Whenever my family or I visited Toronto he always took us on a scenic drive. He seemed to like the Lakeshore area. On one occasion he organised a picnic for us at Niagara Falls. If we were returning to Barbados, he would take us to the airport on our departure. On hearing of his passing my husband Winston remarked what a thoughtful guy he was who went out of his way to help anyone. My children remarked how nice he was. Dudley will be remembered as an exceptional person by all who knew him. Well done my friend, gone but cannot be forgotten. Sleep on and rest in peace. Your friend Jean "Soupie" DePradine Small

Our memory of Dudley goes back to the hearing of him playing the saxophone at the apartment complex we both lived in. Then, to the house, in the backyard, a horticutural experience with caribana parties including the neighbours. At Christmas get together he would portray Santa or some character like a bagman. Every year he would write something about a childhood story or some item from his homeland Grenada. This was portrayed with characters he devised for one of his church's functions. His apartment was a caribbean history, decorated with imitation trees from the caribbean. Most memorable was his creation of a bird made with pages from the Share and the National Geographic magazines. He will surely be missed.

Dudley was always someone who brought happiness to anyone who was in his company. I remember him at a party at Christmas time dressed as Santa Claus ringing his bell, singing and encouraging everyone to join in the spirit of Christmas. May his soul rest in peace
