Souvenirs

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Eugene Karhoff of Millersburg, MI. He departed this world surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Don was born on September 4, 1949 in Durand, MI, the son of Bernard “Don” and Barbara (Maginity) Karhoff. He graduated from Durand High School in 1967 where he was active in athletics and band. Don attended Michigan State University and continued to be a lifelong Spartan fan. On December 13, 1969, Don married Sharon (Bowns) Karhoff and together they raised their two sons, Troy and Brett. Don managed metal stamping plants in the automotive industry for 45 years.

After the passing of Sharon, Don found happiness and companionship again. Don remarried on August 4, 2017 to Lynn (Kania) Karhoff and retired to a new log cabin in the woods of Northern Michigan on Lake Huron. He enjoyed Jeep adventures, snowmobiling, fishing, golfing, and especially wildlife. Don was known to many as Grizzz for his fondness of bears.

Don is survived by his wife, Lynn, 2 sons: Troy (Cristen) Karhoff of Gilbert, AZ, Brett Karhoff of Grand Rapids, MI, 4 grandchildren: Cobe (Katelyn), Peyton, Makenna, Taylor; Mother: Barbara Karhoff of Palmetto, FL, 1 sister: Karen (Lee) Lewis of Chanhassen, MN, 1 brother: Kirk (Peggy) Karhoff of Palmetto, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Don was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon and father, Bernard “Don” Karhoff.

In accordance with his wishes, Don has been cremated. A Celebration of Life event was held May 26, 2024 to honor his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The North American Bear Center or Special Olympics.
