"So if the son sets you free, you will be free indeed" John 8:36
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Ishema West, born on October 5, 2007, in Kigali, Rwanda. He left us on July 8, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas, at the tender age of 18. David was a beloved son to Sean and Amy West, and a cherished brother to Kaitlyn Likens, Stella West, and Isaac West. He was also deeply loved by his grandparents, Guy and Rita West, and John and Jean Atherton.
David was a 2026 graduate of Olathe East High School, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated athlete, lettering in soccer all four years and contributing to the team’s remarkable achievement as the 2023 State Champion team. David found enjoyment being outside and playing the game he loved. Additionally, David was an avid movie enthusiast, critiquing films with a discerning eye and an impressive memory for plot details, music, and performances.
David was kind and had an innate ability to sense how others were feeling. His empathetic nature will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held in David's honor on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Christ Community Church - Olathe Campus, located at 20600 W 119th St, Olathe, KS 66061. The West family welcomes friends and loved ones beginning at 1 PM, with the memorial service commencing at 2 PM.
David's presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
