“A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest, It broke our hearts to see you go, God only takes the best.“
In Loving Memory of David Millard
A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. It broke our hearts to see you go, for God only takes the best.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Millard, a cherished son, devoted husband, loving brother, proud father, and beloved Papa, at 69 years of age.
Dave was truly one of the good ones—a remarkable man whose natural camaraderie drew others toward him. He was always up for a good conversation and a captivating story, making friends wherever he went. Dave often said, “Never let the facts get in the way of a good story,” and his life was beautifully defined by the way he loved.
He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Valerie, with whom he was happily married for 48 years and a profound bond that lasted 52 years. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Lena Marie (Tyson, Daveney & Cassian) and Jessica Michelle (Steven & their soon-to-arrive, Olivia). David’s devotion to his family was unwavering; they were always his first priority. Now, as he joins his father, Raymond, he takes comfort in knowing that his brothers, Bob and Brian, will support their mother, Doreen, ensuring that the family bond continues to strengthen.
Generous of spirit, he readily gave of himself and was always eager to help others. As a civil designer, builder, tinkerer, gardener, coach, and chef, Dave embraced life in all its dimensions.
His backyard was a sanctuary, where vibrant blossoms reflected his nurturing spirit, and gatherings were filled with laughter, warmth, and delicious food. David cherished his dogs and his beekeeping, finding joy in watching life grow around him, especially the family he adored. The barbecue was always ready, and the door would always be open.
A passionate sports fan, Dave found great joy in Rugby, having played many years with clubs such as Vampire Rugby, Westshore/Velox RFC, and most recently with Ebb Tide RFC. His passion extended beyond the Rugby pitch, as he remained a lifelong fan. Coaching is where he truly shared his love of sport. He was a positive Football, Fastball & Soccer coach who encouraged and supported his daughters and, more recently, cheered enthusiastically for his grandchildren.
He was a good-natured man with warm humour and a steady demeanour. Dave had a curious mind and was a true gentleman of honourable and exceptional quality. He will be greatly missed.
We appreciate your kindness and support during our time of grieving. His stories and quotes will remain timeless, and we invite you to privately share your memories of Dave with us.

We remember the teddy bear hugs no matter what. Playing baseball no matter the weather David was there with a big smile and an encouraging word I tried to find the christening picture but remembered he wouldn’t pose because he had the stitches of a baseball on his forehead. You will be missed but you are in our hearts forever

What sad news. I’ve got so many great memories of Big Wave Dave, both on and off the field, in Canada and at some very memorable away a Games and tours of France and Portugal. Always a gentleman, always a good friend, will miss you mate! Arohanui from Alec and Gloria in New Zealand. Much love to Val and the family.

:( Dave oversaw the construction of numerous Forest Service buildings, including the Kamloops Wildfire Centre at the Kamloops Airport. He knew every nook and cranny of the infrastructure under his care, including where to find shut-off values not identified on blueprints. He was tapped for his wealth of knowledge and experience for years well after his retirement. Always enthusiastic, courteous and helpful; a shining example of the Forest Service’s “can-do” culture.

I was saddened to read of Dave's passing. For several years, I would play touch rugby at Windsor Park with the Ebb Tide during my summers in Victoria. Dave was always a welcoming face to newcomers. Deepest Condolences, Scott Sullivan

Dave’s passing is a loss for so many people. As a long-time member of the Ebb Tide family Dave was both a wonderful team mate and long serving member of the executive. In my rookie year with Ebb Tide – in my mid-forties – I was told that I would play prop. A position I had never played. Dave took me under his wing and taught me the dark arts of the front row. He was always quick with a smile and would always lend a helping hand. Dave will be sorely missed. Condolences to Val and the family members.
