Recuerdos

David Nelson Crawford, 68, of Parkersburg, West Virginia died January 26, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife, Rebecca, and sister-in-law. David was a generous, loving, and an exceptional man. David was a teacher at Greenmont Elementary school in Vienna, WV for 32 years. He loved teaching his students and they were his inspiration in life. He had many loving friends, neighbors, and family that made his heart shine. David loved making people laugh and he celebrated every day. He loved traveling, but especially to New York City with his wife Rebecca. One of David’s joys in life was the Christmas holiday season. He decorated his home with a multitude of lights and his famous picture window was enjoyed by many. David is survived by his wife, Rebecca, his nephew Jeff Rasel of New Jersey, two great-nephews, Michael and Chris of Canada, and a very loving extended family. David’s wife, Rebecca, would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love from those who knew him. A private cremation will take place at Mid-Ohio Valley Cremation Society. Arrangements will be made by Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV for his final resting place.

Dave was a very special teacher and provided a very positive presence in both of our sons lives. Was always such a joy to run into him throughout the years. We have kept him in our prayers these last several months and know he is at peace. Our love and prayers go out to you Becky. May God give you strength and peace.

Wendy and I are very sorry for this loss. I had both Dave and Becky as teachers at Greenmont, but really consider(ed) them friends. While the memories of them as teachers was enough to last a lifetime, it was also the continuing warmth and friendship that endured. I always think of Dave and Becky together, but I will say Dave was a truly a warm soul! And such a great person!

Becky, I am so very sad for such a loss of "a good guy". I sent you a card, but I hope that you can see my posting about Dave on Facebook and the comments that others have added. Dave used to tease Sam, in a good way, about him always wearing "sweats". He finally got Sam to admit that he did wear "dress nicely" on Sundays to church. Dave told Sam that some Sunday, he was coming to Wayside to check out what Sam was wearing. Dave came! I think that was just another example of Dave's devotion to the uniqueness of his individual students. I am sorry that we were not blessed with him for a longer time. You two were a team together for so many years, but I know you would have liked it to be longer. As a widow, I hold onto the belief that we will see them again for eternity. Until that time comes, may your memories bring you smiles and thinking of him also bring laughter.

Mr. Crawford was one of the great ones. Truly. I was fortunate enough to have him as my teacher in 4th grade during a time when my anxiety was off the charts. He was so concerned and took the time to work alongside of my parents to help me trudge through the difficulties that anxiety can present in a kid. He was wonderful. I still share the stories of "Ketchup Day" with my own children. And when I share stories of him as a teacher, or our community at Greenmont Elementary with others, it is difficult for people to believe it really was as wonderful of a community as it was. There is nothing like the love and support of our teachers at Greenmont Elementary. I am forever proud to be a Grizzly. Mrs. Crawford, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart broke when I heard the news of his passing. The two of you brought one another such joy. Please be confident of my prayers.

I met Dave in 1967, when my family moved to Parkersburg We moved to Lincoln Avenue. I have many memories of Dave. I visited Dave's classroom to tell the kids about teeth & good oral hygiene. All the kids wrote a letter to me. I still have all the letters. They were hilarious. Some of the kids said I had given them the wrong information. As I was packing up my things; I knocked the plant off the desk. All the kids knew I would be in time out. Luckily I just cleaned up the mess. Dave laughed after all the kids had left the room. Sorry about your loss Becky. RIP Dave.!
