Souvenirs

Daryl Lynn Poynter, a generous and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher, was born April 16, 1950 in Erlanger, Kentucky to William Bruce Poynter and Thelma Craile Poynter. Daryl passed away June 30, 2021 at her home with Barry Keith Daniels, her husband of 49 years. She is survived by Barry, her brother Gary Poynter, her daughter Erica Daniels, and her daughter Lindsay Weldon (husband Aaron Weldon and their four children Elijah, Abel, Isaac, and Noelle). After a sweet first- and second-grade romance with Barry, Daryl moved to Florence, KY and graduated from Boone County High School (rival to Barry's high school). She received a Bachelor's in Education from Eastern Kentucky University where she was a founding member of a Kappa Alpha Theta chapter. In their senior years Daryl and Barry fell back in love and were married shortly after graduation. They spent their early marriage in Chicago and then in Lenexa, Kansas where they made life-long friends. Their moves to Dallas/Plano and then Gun Barrel City, Texas, along with becoming Texas A&M fans and making more great friends, grew their love of The Great State. Everywhere Daryl went she did good and touched people's lives in a special way, and anyone who knew her would tell you how much they appreciated and loved being around her. When her daughters were young she was their Girl Scout leader, super PTA mom, and dedicated support for their endless activities. Daryl taught countless elementary school children not only how to read and write but also that they were special and loved as her students. She spent her time with her grandchildren snuggling, reading, playing games, and being the extraordinary Halloween costume-maker. Daryl fought with all she had to the very end, evident in her oncologist's tear-filled statement that he "never thought someone so small could fight so hard." Her tiny frame housed a big heart that spread joy everywhere and left her family, friends, and communities with beautiful memories.

It has been hard for me to go to this page. I truly cannot believe that Daryl is not with us. We shared so many great memories and my biggest regret is that I did try harder to get together in recent years. She is sooo missed!

Oh how I will miss my friend, Daryl! She was forever young, energetic and loving. She was the epitome of the perfect woman...I loved her for who she was and what she meant to me. When I first saw her at a social gathering of friends, I thought to myself; "I want to get to know that woman"...she was a beacon to so many. I will miss you, my friend!

Daryl was such an inspiration and fighter to the end. I last saw her walking outside on a cold November day shortly before going into treatment bundled up from head to toe but out there trying to be in the best shape possible to beat this disease! Will miss you greatly Dear Friend and heaven has been blessed by your presence-love, Linda and Bill Mulchin
