Christopher Adam Martinez
23 de septiembre de 1986 - 11 de julio de 2021
23 de septiembre de 1986 - 11 de julio de 2021
You'll never walk alone.
On Sunday, July 11, 2021, Christopher Adam Martinez, loved son and brother, breathed his last breath on earth and entered the presence of Jesus at the age of 34. Christopher was born in Santa Cruz, CA on September 23, 1986, to Joe and Pam Martinez.
Christopher was homeschooled in the Santa Cruz, CA area and then went to high school in Templeton, CA when his family moved to Atascadero, CA. He was known in high school for his basketball skills and singing and theatrical flair. He traveled to Africa with Athletes in Action directly after high school. He went to Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA for three years, with studies concentrated in Political Science and theater. He served with Youth With A Mission in Pichilemu, Chile, and ministered in other parts of South America. He received his ESL teaching certification in Spain. His love for travel took him to Central America where he explored his family roots in Nicaragua.
For a time, Christopher settled in Santa Cruz, CA, and worked at Seascape Beach Resort as well as Margaritaville and Shadowbrook restaurants. He loved Santa Cruz; the beaches, and the culture. He was fond of walking along East Cliff Drive and Pleasure Point. When he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, he worked for Renewal by Anderson as a salesman and recruiter, earning high awards for salesmanship in the company. He was known for his big personality and his quick sense of humor. He enjoyed sports but was especially loyal to his favorite soccer team, Liverpool FC. His strong sense of justice motivated Christopher to be active in politics and participate as a mentor in summer camps for children of incarcerated persons through Angel Tree’s Camp 180 in Arizona.
Christopher is survived by his family: parents, Joe and Pam Martinez of Capitola, CA; sister Daniella Indie of Queen Creek, AZ; brother Jeffrey Martinez of Santa Cruz, CA; sister Cassidy Martinez of Corralitos, CA; and brother Mark Martinez of Capitola, CA, as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law, 3 nieces, 3 nephews, many cousins, aunts, and uncles who will miss him so much.
An outdoor memorial service will be held in Santa Cruz, CA on Sunday, September 26 at 1 pm at the amphitheater at Coastlands Church 280 State Park Drive, Aptos, CA. Memorial donations will be taken for Camp 180 P.O. Box 4774, Arizona City, AZ, 85123 or use Venmo @Virginia-Coco with a note for the Christopher Martinez scholarship fund.

Today was such a beautiful tribute to honor how much Christopher means to his family and friends. Robb, Jesse, Shannon and I will be forever grateful for bumping into Christopher last April in Fountain Hills at an art fair where he was running a booth for work. He gave us a big hugs and was able to take a quick break and visit with us for a few minutes. It was such a fun surprise to see him and made our day! He will be so very missed. ❤️ Love you Martinez family! ❤️

I had a visit from Christopher in a dream about a week ago that I wanted to share with his family. In the dream I was out somewhere and he was there and I ran up to him and said "Chris! What are you doing here!?" in astonishment. He looked at me and said "It's all okay, I will explain later." He gave me a big long hug and it was so bittersweet. And that was it. It felt so real, like a visit, and it was so moving that I felt inclined to share. I am so sorry that I won't be able to make it to the memorial service and I will be sending so much love to all of Chris's friends and family, especially on that day. Happy early birthday to you in heaven Christopher, you will be dearly missed here on earth by so many.

Beautiful memory of Christopher as a child with his cousins and siblings. My prayers for my cousin Joe, Pam and the family. Christopher is at peace, surrounded by aunt Blanca, uncle Santos and more importantly our Heavenly Father. We shall see him again. We love you all❤️

Christopher's birthday is September 23. He did not like birthday cake. He preferred birthday pie. He also "didn't like to celebrate" but we always did. I will miss his snarky comments and the way he said "mom" this year on his birthday. He would have taken a long hike, either here in California along the coastline (since it's full moon, it'll be low tide) or if he was in Arizona he'd hike up some mountain to enjoy the sunset. I wonder if they celebrate birthdays in heaven. It's strange that we continue to remember people who have graduated to heaven's birthdays even years after they are gone. July 11 will always be Christopher's Death-day but September 23 will always be his Birth-day. Thank you, Jesus that Christopher was born, and he lived 34 years as my son. He is and was a gift to our family and we miss him.
