Obituary

Christine (Chris) Eva Rasmussen passed on February 5th, 2026. Born Christine Buehler on June 18th, 1962 in South Bend, Indiana, Chris was the youngest of three siblings and the daughter of Mary and Theodore Buehler.

From an early age, Chris had a spirit that stood out. With a large age gap between her and her brothers, she learned early how to hold her own and be confident, independent, and sure of who she was. Even as a child, she had a sense of style fit for a queen, often in dresses and carrying herself with quiet confidence. She loved riding bikes with her friends, cared deeply for her dog Po Po, and spent many hours babysitting her nieces, always showing care for the people around her.

As she grew older, Chris became known for her unmistakable hair, often compared to Farrah Fawcett, as well as her sharp sense of humor and strength of character. She excelled at telling it like it was, laughing loudly, and finding humor where others might not. She was fiercely loyal to the people she loved. An amazing cook, Chris showed her love through food and had a way of bringing people together around her table. If there was a deal, a coupon, or a bargain to be found, Chris would find it. She also had a deep love of travel, sparked at a young age when she dreamed of becoming a flight attendant. She spent over 40 years working at Delta Airlines, where she built a career she was proud of, met her husband, and formed friendships that lasted decades. Through her work and her love of travel, she explored over 20 countries and passed that love of exploring the world on to her family.

Chris had an especially deep love for dogs. From her own beloved pets to her cherished “grand-puppies” Max, Indy, Remy, and Rupert, dogs held a special place in her heart. She never missed a chance to spoil them or show off pictures. Her love for animals was another reflection of her capacity for unconditional love.

She was the beloved wife of Bruce Rasmussen, her partner in life for 29 years. Together they built a family grounded in love and resilience.

Chris was a devoted and loving mother to her daughters Taylor, Alexis (Jeremy), and Samantha, whose love for her was unmatched and whose lives are forever shaped by her strength, honesty, and humor. She was also a loving stepmother to Tara and Christian (Laura), who were important parts of her life and family.

She is survived by her brothers Dennis Beard (Sandy) and David Beard (Pam), along with an incredible number of close friends and family. Among them were her cherished friends known as the Golden Girls (Diana, Jen, Julie, Sherri) her Bunco group, and her church life group, all of whom brought laughter, loyalty, and joy into her life and stood by her through every season.

At birthdays, Chris liked to joke that she was always turning 25, a running tradition that perfectly captured her spirit, she remains forever 25, in heart and in humor. And in true Chris fashion, this obituary was revised and edited to make sure nothing was left out and everything was just the way she liked it.

Chris did not want mourning. She wanted a party. She wanted stories, laughter, and people together, remembering her the way she lived honestly, unapologetically, and with humor. This celebration of life is meant to do exactly that.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Chris by sharing a story, a laugh, or a kindness with someone you love.

We love you always. Your strength and love live on in us.

I would like to extend my deepest thoughts and prayers to Bruce and your daughters during this incredibly difficult time. It was truly a privilege to work alongside Chris and to build not only a strong professional relationship, but also a meaningful bond rooted in our shared Christian faith. Chris was a woman of integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She played a tremendous role in building and strengthening the Phoenix Above Wing training program. Through training new hires and mentoring countless employees, she helped shape the culture of our station. Her influence went far beyond procedures and policies — she invested in people. The impact she had on so many lives will never be forgotten. Anytime I called on Chris for help, she was there. Reliable. Dependable. Knowledgeable. She carried herself with humility and grace, always willing to serve and support others without hesitation. Chris leaves behind a legacy of faith, leadership, mentorship, and love. She made us better — not just as employees, but as people. She will be deeply missed, but her impact will continue to live on through all of us who had the honor of knowing and working with her. With heartfelt sympathy, Will Mason

Bruce, Taylor, Alexis, Samatha, Tara, & Christian. The toughest thing in this life is to lose the person who was the center of your world. 😞 Chris was an amazing person. Her quiet calm persona was such a blessing. I regret that I didn’t no her better. Of course I did get a few financial pointers from her which I took full advantage of. 💕 My heart and my families heart was with all of you yesterday. ❤️❤️ In memory of Chris we will be planting a tree on our new land. She will be in good company with our son and a chosen few others. We’re not sure if the trees will be Maple or Cherry. The trees will be good for the wildlife & the environment. We will do this in the Spring of course. I will send pictures. I’m sending positive thoughts, prayers, hugs, and all the love in my heart to all of you. 💕🙏 Val & Family

So sorry Rasmussen family. I know we haven’t seen you guys in years, but we always adored your family. I have nothing but fond memories of you all. Brad and I ran into Chris a few years back at a store and it was like no time had passed. She was so easy to talk to and be around. She loved her family dearly. She will definitely be missed. We will be out of town for her celebration of life, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you all. Love, Brad and Mary Ann Sturm
