Recuerdos

Charles Cook, age 62, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024. He was proudly born to the late Arthur and Esther Cook (née Boyd) in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from McKinley High School, Charles received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a concentration in Architecture. He loved his work and was privileged to play a major part in the 1996 Olympics and Paralympics. These events are what brought him to Atlanta from his beloved hometown. Charles was a man of great faith, a loving father, grandfather, loving husband, and mentor. Since his early encounters with Jesus Christ, Charles understood God’s purpose for his life. He knew he was set apart and diligently worked to help build God’s kingdom here on earth. He served his family, community, and the Church with love. He loved others as Christ loves us and was a consistent voice in the lives of many youth and young adults. His passing comes as a great shock and deep loss to his entire family and the countless friends who loved him unconditionally. Though the family is deeply grieved, they know they will see him again in glory. The family appreciates your prayers and support during this difficult time and asks that, in lieu of flowers, you contribute to the Charles Cook Homegoing costs GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/charles-cook-home-going. You can also give through Zelle: caleb.chapman7@gmail.com or CashApp: @TheCookFamilyFund Charles is survived by his sons, Jonathan (Shay) Cook and Caleb Cook; his cherished grandchildren, Jaleah Cook and Jamir Cook; and his great-aunt, Jessie R. Foster. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many close friends. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Cook. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Mount Paran Church, 2055 Mount Paran, Atlanta, GA 30327.

I can’t believe the suddenness with which you took your flight… it’s been a year since you transitioned to the place you lived to dwell… I miss you my friend… Your steadfast, unwavering faith, your enthusiasm for life, your chastisements and encouragements.. your calls to see “what’s going on “M.” The tears still flow… some days I reach to call you only to be reminded .. that I will not hear your voice again on this side..until that day.. I will continue to hear your voice again whisper.. “journey well.” Love and miss you❤️

Mr. Cook was a selfless man of God. Always about the Kingdom and helping others achieve thier dreams while applying the principals of God to enhance thier walk with Him. He loved to laugh, try new things and Talk/give advice to those who were in need. Im thankful to have known him and for him to have met some of my students. A true full circle moment! I LOVE YOU UNC and miss you dearly!

Charles was an awesome man of God. I had the pleasure to work with him for about a year, and I had not known him long when my father passed. Charles drove to Augusta to attend the funeral; that's the kind of person he was. He was a good friend, and he will be missed.

Mr. C was a great man, friend, and mentor. I first met Mr. C at Mount Paran in 2011 when he became my middle school small group leader. He stayed my small group leader for the next few years until I entered high school. I kept in touch with Mr. C in high school and he was always someone I could come to and speak or pray with. He helped mentor me through high school, even assisting me on my senior project. He also mentored me through some of the hardest times life brings. He was the man who taught me how to tie a bow tie, which he bought for me to replace the cheap clip-on versions I would wear. I will miss him and his wise council, but I know I will see him again in the presence of the Lord Jesus. "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his." - Roman's 6:4-5
