The Life of Canute N. Brown Canute Morrace Newton Brown was the seventh child born to his parents, the late Leonard S. and Effie E. Brown. He was born in Golden Grove, St. Ann, Jamaica on June 10, 1937. He departed this earthly life on July 25, 2022 at the PAM Rehabilitation Hospital of Centennial Hills in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received Christ at an early age, and was a devout member of the Beechamville Methodist Church in Claremont, St. Ann, Jamaica throughout his childhood and adolescence. Canute moved to the United States in the late 1950's to pursue a higher education, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1970. He received his elementary education at Claremont All Age School in Claremont, St. Ann, Jamaica, and secondary education at Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica. He later attended an HBCU, Howard University, in Washington, D.C., where he studied law. After graduating with a degree in law, he went on to become an FBI agent until he retired in the early 1980's. Canute married his late wife of 30 years and the mother of his only biological child, Rose, in September 1962. Sadly, Rose passed away from Breast Cancer in August 1993. He later married his present wife of 23 years and widow, Ruby, in March 1999. During his long, storied life he became a great many things. In addition to being a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and kind-hearted person -- he was also a scholar, civil rights activist, avid reader, restauranteur and cabbie. Canute was preceded in death by: parents, Leonard and Effie; late wife, Rose; and brothers, Brandon and George. He is survived by: widow, Ruby; son (biological), Canute Chad; grandson (biological) Jayson; stepchildren, Valerie and Michael; brothers, Dillon, Conrad and Murray; and sisters, Grace, Shirley, Effie and June. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and community members to cherish his memories.
