My first memory of Bruce was in the summer of 1967. I was dating his sister, Ellen, my wife of 50+ years when I spotted him in the garage. There he was stuffing a 350 cu. Inch engine into a small Sunbeam Alpine sports car. Bruce loved to fix things, improve things. He tried to make everything and everyone around him better. I saw as a young teenager how all his friends looked to him as their guide. These qualities came to fruition in his various achievements in the Boston area. He was my brother-in-law, he was my friend. I always knew I could count on him. I miss him

The strongest association in my memory of uncle Bruce is fun. He loved fun- his inner child was strong and I loved that about him. Times with him always walked that fine line of excitement in a context of safety- things like letting me drive the motor boat when I was just barely old enough, or the rope swing that was just the right level of rickety. He really knew how to get me, an otherwise overly cautious kid, to take a healthy risk. I also remember his generous heart- whether it was fun toys at Christmas, food, their cabin, supporting charitable endeavors- he had a big heart and was very hospitable.

We have been Greenwood neighbors and friends with Bruce, Debbie and their family for decades. Bruce was an inspiration with his do it yourself approach to dozens of lake tasks and was a cornerstone of the Round Pond community. Bruce had so many great attributes but if I had to note just one, it would be his big heart. He was always willing to help out and contribute his time and other things without expecting anything in return and without even being asked. From his generous annual offers of the use of his rope swing to our kids, to his repairing my outboard motor without even telling me he did it. Memories of Bruce range from skiing with him at Mt. Abram, boating with him in the summer, dinners together and just watching him from across the lake puttering and enjoying his time at what had to have been his happy place. There will be a gaping hole in the Round Pond community. Beth and I loved Bruce and while we cannot attend the memorial service, our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this challenging time. Russell and Beth Anderson

My memories go back to Watertown where I first met Bruce. Along with Sean, Tom, Janet, and you, Deb, I got some much needed time to sort myself out. Bruce was funny and wise and very kind. We all spent some memorable times in our early married lives. Over the years we’d get to see you both - in Massachusetts and then in New York, where we came to know Lucie and Will at least a little bit. Bruce was always up for a laugh and the rare times we got to see him after moving to New York were spent as if no time had passed at all, like we were all the kids we once were. He was a big, warm family man, loving you and the kids so openly. We were lucky and honored to know him and will miss him immeasurably.

Bruce was my baby brother. I loved playing baseball with him and the neighborhood kids. I was an outside child who climbed rocks and made forts in the woods. Bruce loved to accompany me(of course being the big sister I didn’t always let him.) As he grew up he became an excellent athlete and not the “little brother” as he grew taller and stronger. I loved watching him play baseball & football. I would cheer and yell when he hit a home run. After Bruce went to college he met Debby. Debby became part of Bruce’s life . Our father passed away young. I remember Bruce saying after our father’s funeral that since my husband and I had an apartment, Bruce suggested my husband and I move into our childhood home as we would have a house and our mother would not be alone. My mother got to stay in her home and was able to pass in her bed at 91 years old. Our lives were greatly enriched with the birth of Lucy and Will. I loved watching Bruce be a father. Bruce loved Will and Lucy and provided them with both discipline and love. Bruce welcomed us to visit and was the perfect host. Bruce & Debby were great hosts and we always had fun. Nothing in this world can take the place of my “baby brother”. We love you, Debby & Will
