Recuerdos

Brian John Lister will be forever missed. His slight smile and sense of calmness was a blessing to everyone that knew him. He was a man of simple pleasures and enjoyed every opportunity to surround himself in nature. Brian was a kind man and took great pride in being a helpful son, brother, friend and neighbor whenever possible. Whether out on the water or deep in the woods, his sense of adventure was inspiring. He was always up for a gathering with friends and although he was often the quietest out of the bunch, his presence was felt and admired by all.

His strong work ethic was matched when the opportunity to work for World Timber Corp., a small exotic wood import business became available. For nearly 20 years, Brian's dedication to learning and perfecting the craft of lumber grading was on display and his attention to detail was unmatched. He had recently eclipsed the 10,000 hour mark of Forklift operation and could identify nearly ever piece of wood presented to him. Through his various travels to inspect materials at the source, he collected many unique figurines in addition to the experiences of a lifetime.  Memories of Brian's vibrant life will be carried on for generations to come. Anyone who knew Brian is welcome and encouraged to share any photos, videos, stories and memories here in his honor to help us carry on his legacy. As his family, seeing the positive impact that he had on others is one of the biggest opportunities to heal the void his loss has on our hearts. Above all else, if you are struggling with depression and find yourself in a dark place- please take this as an opportunity and a reminder to ask for help. Seeking guidance is not a sign of weakness, but an opportunity to overcome adversity and grow a sense of strength in yourself.

The picture of Brian here in the garage is exactly how I’ll always remember him! Always making the funniest observations or raising the most random questions - do the airplane wheels start spinning before they touch the ground?! 🤣 Brian always could make me laugh. The turtle named TURTLE. A witty comment tacked on to the end of a conversation. Always smiling and seemingly keeping his opinion on the neutral side of things. He was always there being Brian, which sounds generic, but he was just himself! Two years later, it’s still so strange living in a world where we will never see him walk into the backyard or garage or that I’ll never be able to ask “what’s Brian up to?” when I talk to Mike or Jim. Just like he lived his life, he was always consistent and always a presence. I still feel his presence and think of him everyday. Sometimes there’s comfort in knowing I can talk to him when I feel anxious because he is in a place that we cannot comprehend free from worldly pain and worries. Occasionally I’ll have a dream about him and it’ll feel like none of this happened at all and it was just some twisted nightmare. But most of the time I just feel sad that someone we all loved so much is gone. Brian was a great person, and even his death can’t erase that. I am so thankful for Brian, the life he lived, and for the love he still gives us even if we aren’t able to see or talk to him.
