Recuerdos

Billy Ray Burdette, 75, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, in Wesley Chapel, FL. Billy was born in Riverside, West Virginia, on October 23, 1948, to Shelby and Helen G. Burdette; in 1952, Billy and his family moved to Clearwater, Florida. He graduated from Clearwater High School in 1966. In his junior year of high school, Billy worked for Maas Brothers, left to work for Wolf Brothers, and became the youngest store manager at age 23. After leaving retail, he went on to a career in wholesale with Catalina, Jantzen, and Phillips Van Huesen until he semi-retired. Billy then joined Ferman Automotive as a service writer.

Billy married the love of his life, Derenda Britts, in 1968. They had two sons, Wesley and Randy.

Throughout his life, Billy had a real love for his family, God, country, friends, fashion, and baseball. From the time he was in high school to the time he retired, Billy enjoyed working in fashion and was always sharply dressed. When the boys came along, his love of baseball was something he wanted to share with them. Billy loved coaching, teaching, and helping children find their passion. He coached Little League baseball. He even worked with boys from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and followed their successes into their college and professional careers. Billy was passionate, compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor. His laughter was infectious, spreading joy wherever he went, and his love for his friends and family was bigger than life.

His father, brother, and mother preceded him in death, and he is survived by his wife, Derenda Britts Burdette, Wesley Eric (Kristin), and Randall Todd (Brenda); his four grandchildren, Jacob Garrett, Benjamin Lewis, Avery Helen, and Miller Analise; his sister Mary Ann Haer; and his extended family of nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life is on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Wesley Chapel Campus Citylife Church, 9020 Imperial Oak Blvd, Tampa, FL 33647. Billy was my favorite brother in law, I am the youngest of the family so I don't have the relationship stories the rest of the family does. But i do have one, and that is of my brother Keith he Loved baseball growing up, and as alot of friends and family have said Billy loved baseball as well he loved to work with the kids coach ect. Well as some of you know my brother and siblings are vertically challenged (short) lol, Keith got to play baseball in little league and Billy helped him and by that he gave Keith one of his baseball gloves, well the glove was almost as big as keith Lol i wish I knew how to post the picture because it is priceless, I guess Billy wanted to make sure No balls got pass Keith lol and I don't think they did. Billy was an amazing Husband to my sister and a wonderful father and grandfather and the list goes on. Rest in peace Billy you will be missed but Never forgotten. Love and miss you Deatra Jane as you always called me.

1987 was the year you accepted me to play summer baseball at Brentwood TN. Then you became my dad and my mentor. Words are short to describe you way to be and how humble you were. I do thank you dad for everything you have done in my life. I'm not saying good bye it just I see you latter dad. Fly high and will see you back in the other side. Now you are coaching on a bigger stage. Love you and you will be missed. This picture was taken 2 day after we arrived from Puerto Rico. Left Ricky Ufred, Coach Billy Buerdette (RIP) ans me Freddie R Stuart. Blessings to all of you specially to mom Derenda Burdette... love you mom.

I have been friends with Billy for over forty years. We met when we both joined the same company. We hit it off right away and became best friends almost immediately. We had many adventures together and more laughs than can be counted. I came to feel like he was the brother I never had. Billy and Derenda came to visit last fall. I didn’t realize it was going to be a farewell. I will miss him very much. RIP Bubuski

You will be deeply missed, Billy. Looking through our family photo album this week, and the color you added to our lives is immeasurable. The girls were beyond blessed to have you as their Grandfather. May heaven be full of race cars, Barbeque and baseball.
