Augusta "Big Mummy" Ebelechukwu Nkechi Chukwulobe

10 octobre 1952 - 14 janvier 2026
"She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7
Mrs Augusta Nkechi Ebelechukwu Chukwulobe was the first daughter of the late Humphrey Udemba and Comfort Nwanyieke Azubogu, of the Ezigbo Royal Family of Inyaba Umudim Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
She was raised within a close-knit family and is survived by three brothers and one sister. She was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, whom the family lost in their early years — a loss that shaped the deep bonds and enduring closeness among her siblings.
She began her early education at St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Fegge, Onitsha, before relocating to Lagos in South-Western Nigeria, where she continued her primary schooling at Gbaja Primary School, Surulere. She went on to attend Lagos City College, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, for her secondary education.
In the early 1970s, she moved to the United Kingdom as a student, initially living in London, and later spent time in France, where she studied the French language. Through dedication and excellence, she qualified as a professional bilingual secretary.
It was in the UK that she met and married her beloved husband, the late Mr. Clement Chukwuemeka Chukwulobe. The couple later relocated to Manchester, where they built their home and raised their family. In 1988, the family relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, where they continued their lives together and remained closely connected to their community and loved ones. Their union was blessed with four children — three daughters, Nkechi, Uche, and Ngozi and one son, Emeka — and through them, she became a cherished mother-in-law and a proud grandmother.
During her years in Nigeria, Mrs Chukwulobe was an accomplished and dedicated busineswoman. She managed De Regency, a Fine Furniture Building company, based in Apapa, Lagos, where her professionalism and integrity earned her great respect. Following the passing of her beloved husband in 2001, she courageously took over the leaderahip of CECO, an import and supply business, continuing his legacy with resilience, determination, and grace.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Mrs. Chukwulobe was strong in Christ and committed to Christian service throughout her life. She actively fulfilled missionary work in the northern parts of Nigeria, serving predominantly Muslim communities with compassion, humility, and love. She was a devoted and significant contributor to Good News Baptist Church, Surulere, Lagos, and played an instrumental role in the establishment of a satellite Baptist church in Nnewi, extending her passion for sharing the Gospel and building faith communities.
It was also at Good News Baptist Church that she expressed her deep love for music and worship, faithfully serving as a member of the church choir, where her voice and joyful spirit uplifted many during times of praise and fellowship.
Affectionately known as “Big Mummy” by family and friends in Lagos, she was a source of warmth, wisdom, and gentle strength to all who knew her.
She frequently travelled between Nigeria and the UK, and for many years until her passing, she was a faithful member of Bramhall Baptist Church, where she served actively within the Women’s Prayer Group. She was widely known for her gift of prayer and was lovingly regarded as a prayer warrior, offering steadfast intercession, encouragement, and spiritual support to her church family and all who sought her counsel.
To her family, she was a steadfast presence and a guiding light — a woman of quiet strength, boundless love, and unwavering faith. She was our refuge in times of trial, our joy in moments of celebration, and the heart that held us together. Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and devotion will continue to live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Tribute to a Dear Friend Mrs. Augusta Ebelechukwu Chukwulobe My dear, “Augusta baby” as I fondly called you, We met through our husbands, but as time went by, our friendship blossomed into something truly special. I cherish the beautiful memories we created together, especially the times we spent at the Boat Club in Lagos — you from Manchester and I from Abuja. Your smile and laughter were simply contagious. Every moment with you was filled with warmth, joy, and genuine connection. We would sit and catch up on everything that had happened while we were apart, and those conversations remained precious to me. I remember vividly the last time we were together at your mansion in Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State. We had such a memorable and delightful time. Little did I know that months after you returned to Manchester, I would hear the heartbreaking news that you had suffered a stroke. Augusta, your life was truly a blessing, and your memory is a treasure. You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Rest in peace, my dear friend. I take solace in knowing that heaven has welcomed you, and I pray that angels light your path. Though you are gone from our sight, you will never be forgotten. Adieu, Augusta Ebele Chukwulobe. With love, Amb. Lawunmi Grace Kazalma-Mantey

We’re choosing to remember her laughter, her smiles, her love, her strength and the lives she touched, not the trying times illness brought to her. Aunty Augusta’s memory lives on. Those dinners we all had together are forever in my heart. To Nkechi, Uche, Ngozi and Emeka, we know words can’t do much to ease the pain right now, but we truly hope you find some strength in the beautiful legacy of love she left behind. With all our love, The Kazalma-Manteys
