Audrey Nakamura

Audrey Noriko Nakamura, age 77, of Honolulu, HI, passed away on January 27, 2022.  Audrey was born in Honolulu, HI, on January 24, 1945, to Frank Hiroshi and Toyoko Nakamura.  She was the third of 4 siblings.

Audrey grew up working hard on the weekends in the Maunawili family banana field and then as a trimmer for Del Monte Pineapple Cannery during the summer breaks. She graduated from McKinley High School and then went to the University of Hawaii to earn a degree in Sociology.  She worked in California as a Social Worker for a year.  She missed Hawaii so she returned to Oahu, earned a Masters Teaching Degree in Special Education and taught for many years.  In 1971 she took a course from Werner Erhard in San Francisco and shortly thereafter was approached by a couple of graduates who wanted to bring the training to Hawaii.  Audrey jumped in with her Uncle Yutaka Yamauchi and together, the four of them brought est to Honolulu.

Audrey studied Reiki under Mrs. Takata, and Ho’oponopono under Ihaleakala Hew Len.  She later met Tanouye Tenshin Rotaishi and William (Dub) Leigh and found her true calling as a massage body therapist.  She retired as a teacher, traveled around the world with Dub Leigh to work on people and teach classes.  Audrey was involved in starting up the non-profit organization, International Zentherapy Institute Inc.  Audrey is survived by her brother Mike (Kay), sister Lynn Nakamura, 3 nephews and a niece.  She was preceded in death by her parents, oldest brother Roy (Dorothy) Nakamura and Teacher/Partner William Leigh.

She will be remembered as a kind and generous person, who will be forever missed.  A celebration of life service was held on March 17, 2022 at Hosoi Mortuary, Honolulu, HI.
