Recuerdos

Anne Catherine Reeves succumbed to her decades-long battle with epilepsy on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at her home in Hamilton, Montana. A fierce spirit known for her contagious smile and effusive kindness, Annie was an eternal optimist. Through all her struggles, she remained full of hope. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her heart, and she was never too busy to share a conversation-whether with family, friends, or strangers. Annie had a brilliant mind and an innate understanding of everything mechanical-from cars to small engine repair. She helped design the home she once lived in on Mullen Pass and recently rewired the electrical in her living room. She was also a gifted artist in pretty much every medium she tried: painting, photography, ceramics, beading, welding, woodworking. Annie was born in Bozeman, Montana on December 22, 1976, to John and Debbie Reeves, and she spent most of her childhood in Ocean Shores, Washington before moving with her family to Helena in 1993. She was as comfortable in physics class as she was in advanced automotive, and she was a valedictorian of her graduating class at Helena High. After spending a few years in Havre, she returned to Helena to help her parents run the family restaurant, RB Drive-In. From there, she went to work at Montana City Grill & Saloon before settling at home to raise her daughter, Syrah Lovesong Shaw. Nothing gave Annie more pride than her sweet Syrah, and in Syrah, we see many of Annie's most beautiful qualities: kindness, love of animals, and incredible resilience. In May of 2019, Annie met Ollie Johnson, the true love of her life, and the two of them created a beautiful home together in Hamilton. Annie loved hiking and canoeing in Montana's beautiful landscape, taking her dog, Zero, for walks along the Bitterroot River, cooking delicious dinners and desserts, snowboarding at Lost Trail, and helping Ollie navigate the challenges of Covid, isolation, and distance-learning for his classroom of kindergarteners. Though much too short, Annie's time with Ollie was everything she wanted and deserved-supportive, loving, adventurous, and free. Annie is survived by her loving partner Ollie Johnson; daughter Syrah Shaw; parents John and Debbie Reeves; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Reeves and Luke Muszkiewicz; nieces Hannah and Margot Muszkiewicz; and aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

I first met Annie in 6th grade when I switched schools from PB to OS. I remember walking in and her and few other girls were in the cool girl row, desks all lined up like they planned it the year before, lol. She was welcoming and very nice, not what a PB implant was expecting and I wanna say thanks Annie! I haven't seen Annie since 93 end of sophomore year where we only shared 1or 2 classes, advanced auto was one of them and we had a great time. She always had that perfect smile and happy-sassy attitude quick to let B Moore know she was more mechanically inclined then he was, haha. She was so smart in everything, genius like really but always treated everyone 100% like an equal. I cant believe I'm having to write this so shocking and heart breaking. Truly a person that made the world a better place! RIP Annie, I know your shining down watching over your family and friends. Thoughts and prayers go out to all that loved her in these worst of times! Till we meet again Annie.

Annie is the bravest. and most forgiving person I have ever had the honor to know. Until she met Ollie a year and a half ago, who brought her so much joy, her adult life was full of hardship, loss, her disease and the stigma that went with it, but she never gave up. She fought for her life every day and embraced joy whenever she could. Her long battle is over now and for that I am grateful, but I will miss that smile. I will always cherish the time we had, and I will do my best to honor her by trying to be as brave and forgiving as she was. She wasn't a saint, (who of us are), but to me she embodied all faiths. She was grateful for all of the good, and she loved and forgave as she wished to be loved and forgiven. I feel blessed to have known and loved her, and I will miss her dearly. Annie was a force - brilliant, spirited, energetic, independent, and fiercely loyal. Here she is with her daughter, Syrah, after an afternoon fishing. Last time I saw her she was chopping wood for her parents with her partner, Ollie, on an unusually warm, sunny day earlier this winter. I believe she was happier than she'd been in years. Rest in peace.
